Posted by drewski I will reiterate, the last time I was there was what appeared to be some sort of cell frequency antenna on the entrance. This could be for several reasons... it could be an alarm, it could be flooding alarms... who knows really. The bottom line is that it wasn't there the first time I went, and its there now. So be careful!!!! http://farm8.stati...7_66838153ba_z.jpg

Damn that's frustrating

So I guess the Aurora site is also out of the question then too? It seems too close to developments that I would just assume they've locked it up.

|
Well, it was accessible (if you don't mind rappelling or a terrifying climb) 4 years ago- only one way to find out what the situation is like now! ;)

The last time I went to the Aurora complex, about a year ago or sooner, it seemed like it was still rappel-able, how ever there was some super weird stuff going on down there. I think it might have just been temporary, but we accidentally stumbled into a herd of frightened cows. It was probably a bewildering experience for both the cows and us. Also, there were a bunch of trucks and a Sauron's eye like search light which freaked us out. I think we were lucky because we decided to to venture forth in the dark, otherwise we might have stuck out more especially if they were actually on the look out for us for whatever reason. Setting up an alarm in this one would be difficult but not completely out of question. There is also a juvenile detention facility nearby and the area is patrolled regularly, though as far as I know there is no actual security. I think the place is still safe but people should use the utmost caution when going there for security reasons and safety issues as well. If you fail that climb or mess up the rope work you're in for a nasty fall into storm water full of dead animals and other gunk.

That cell antenna is for a Honeywell burglar alarm panel. Those panels usually check in a couple times a day and will check in if any inputs get activated.(door contacts/motion) But if there is a panel down there, that means power is down there as well. Those backup battery's are only rated for 24 hours.

They make panels so they can charge off a small solar array during the day. So it may not need utility power.

Great pics, even with that antenna the worst that could happen is you will have someone waiting for you on the way out....

Heads up. I was out there yesterday. There's been significant activity on the site. New signs, solar powered lights along the entire fence line, and all sorts of barrels and such moved on the property. I think there are piles of scrap too. Not sure what they are doing, but there's something going on. Keep an eye out.

Thanks for the tip, I've noticed some of that on Google Maps too.

According to the former Groundskeeper, that site has power- wonder why solar lighting... he also stated the barrels and such belong to whoever/whatever is further down the road- he believes its frackers? is there some sort of drilling/mining going on somewhere close ?
