Dun bought a volvo.....

Sooo, I blew up the only nice, newer car ive ever owned (mazdaspeed6)... and then Sold it on ebay. And just tonight picked up an 98 Volvo v70 wagon, I thought the price was great at $600 dollars (didn't even haggle him down, would have felt guilty). Now this here Volvo has 280k miles, been (somewhat) taken care of, has a new alternator, timing belt , tires, and BAD ASS alpine stereo System. I couldn't turn it down as a daily driver, now it does drive like a car with over a quarter of a million miles on it but ive driven worse. The exterior is in decent condition, seems to run and shift pretty good. CONS: interior is in terrible condition (going to do some junkyard hunting to find something when I get a chance), has a pretty good brake pull, the check engine light is on, has an exhaust leak somewhere up near the manifold, and the axles click when you have it at a tight turn. But hell, for the price, eh worth sticking some time and a few bux into I suppose.

Yeah, that price sounds pretty reasonable. I like Volvos. Had a late 70's boosted 242GT that I will regret parting with until the day I die.

Seams prices are quite reasonable for parts as well, both front axles only cost me under $80 for reman units.

Sounds similar to ours. Got our turbo'd V70 (a 98) off the neighbors for $700 after they were hit coming out of a parking lot. Since they live hand-to-mouth with two kids, they couldn't afford the downtime without a vehicle nor to pay to have it fixed. My boyfriend went over to talk to them, and having just gotten his tax return, offered double what the junkyard was going to give them... more than enough to cover the car they already had lined up.

$100 for some control arms and suspension parts, $30 for a junkyard wheel, and $30 for a new fender and it was back on the road.

Love this car. Other than needing some routine maintenance (much of their stuff was cheap fixes or rigged to save money) and the fact they have two younger kids (the interior is kinda hit), it runs beautifully. 211k on the clock and runs great. Only wish it were a stick shift, but it's a fun car.

Here's a picture of it before we found a replacement fender:

Wow that looks great in white! It looks lowered? If I come across some cheap tasteful rims I'm going to grab um. I got pretty much everything mechanical sorted out with the exception of the leaking exhaust manifold. Drives pretty good

Lowered with some coilovers from Sweden that the name was as long as the box. Rides a tad rough, but looks incredible lowered.

Thanks! BF is going for the storm trooper look (hence the rear sticker and the plate... he also has a bobblehead Storm Trooper on his dash.) Running 16t turbos and 12psi... for now.

He also smoked the headlights and tail lights with two layers of Niteshade. Painted the wheels and plasti-dipped the center caps and front grille. It had no heat when we got that due to a dead blower, but that was another quick fix. Minor issue with the rear hatch latch, but it stays shut and is a $5 junkyard part. (Finding one up here is the only issue... most our yards are chock-full of domestics and thin on imports of any nationality.)

There's quite a few in the yards here. I may use this one for a few years and if I like the car I might buy a turbo V70r down the road
