First VW in 10 years

Well, I got tired of pumping gas into the Silverado as a daily... picked up a 2010 GTI with only 31k in United Gray Metallic. What an awesome little car!! It's so well bolted together and an absolute blast to drive. I can't stop smiling.

I still have my truck around for family stuff, moving my quad, lumber, etc.

I've heard mixed reviews about reliability... friends that have had VW issues seem to usually be chalked up to poor maintenance. (Bandi?)

Very nice! Such a fun little car.

We've seen very few problems on the GTIs, and like you said, maintenance is the big one. There were a few issues with intake manifolds, but VW extended the warranty on them.

Just use the right oil, keep it changed and you'll be laughing.

A buddy had a Jetta with a 1.8T that sludged on him and killed the oil pump. Not sure if it's common with GTI's and the 2.0 too... or, once again, just poor maintenance on his end (more likely).

MK6 = TSI. At least in Canada.

I haven't seen any 2.0 TSIs with sludging issues, the earlier FSIs had some issues with it. (Even then there was a free update to a different PCV valve and hose system, regardless of mileage).

Thanks Bandi... it's definitely a TSI. I bought it from a Dodge dealer... probably wouldn't hurt to have our local VW guys check it out.

What a fun car- I even got 29 mpg on the way home from picking it up last night. And that was flogging it pretty hard too.

I'm typically a huge fan of leather... but besides not wanting to spring for an Autobahn, I think that the plaid is definitely the way to go for a GTI. You still get heated seats too! They're really heavily bolstered... made me realize I should shed a few pounds.

Farmer Larry's

I'm gonna play hippy or hillbilly... And I think hippy is the correct answer on this one. lol

They were a bit sooted up... they clean up pretty nice when I detailed it yesterday though. What ever happened to dealerships with good detailers? Seems like a lost skill.

Anyway, from what I've read, the FSI's were much more prone to carbon build up than the newer TSI's.

he's the recaust plant operator on 'B' Crew where I work. We call him Farmer Larry because he grows vegetables for a little roadside stand. His wife, who is the clerk for our department, has a horse boarding service as well.

last summer, he was looking for an economical car to drive because his GMC Sierra 2500 4x4 extended cab pickup was costing him the GNP of Ecuador to drive. He drove a couple of small cars and fell in love with the GTi after a certain person's urging to (ahem cough ahem).

so, Farmer Larry the GTi Pilot...

Similar reason to me getting the GTI... I commute 60 miles a day with my '12 Silverado 1500. Comfy ride, but not terribly exciting nor fuel efficient. 17 mpg isn't bad for a full size truck, but it's not the 29-30 that the GTI gets.
