I had these spent .44 mag cases in my glove box for a while. So... after a mini road trip that got me thinking "if I had... I could..." Well, I had and I could, so I did.
1. Clean the cases and remove the door panels, lock pin trim and lock pin button. (no pics)
2. Mix the epoxy. (I had bedding compound on hand, but JB weld would work just fine.
3. Add epoxy to casing and insert the clean and scuffed lock pin/button.
4. Let the epoxy "set up". During this time, I drilled out the lock pin trim as the cases were just a tad larger than the pins. I bet .357 would have fit without this step.
5. Admire your work and drink a beer.
6. While on your lunch break, install the door panels, trim and pins.
7. set the height so that the case is flush with the trim button but not hindering the locking function.

Next up is the old gearshift knob from my old ride. A real 8 ball from a bar I used to go to. I drilled it out on a lathe years ago and the drill bit chipped the "whatever" its made of. Last time i used "The Right Stuff RTV" I may use clear this time, again, thats what I have on hand.

What is this old ford we're speaking of? Those door panels couldn't possibly predate the mid 80s.

Looks like resin. Sometimes bowling balls get that same sort of chipping around the holes.

You can cure the chipping by using a very sharp cutting tool on the lathe angled in. You want to take out a good bit of material, so you will need a long, thin cutting tool. My uncles used to work for Brunswick and made many many billiards and bowling balls. Many shift knobs float around the garages of my family. They showed me how to do one, and that's how they did it. I seem to remember the lathe spinning slowly, too, so that might be a factor.

i used a drill bit. and iirc, the larger the bit, the slower the speeds for drills. one time- i made 5/16ths tubing out of 5/16ths round stock. stainless steel round stock... that took a long time to figure feed rate and rpm... if i had a number of pool balls to play with, i would get it right without chipping one.
and the red ford was a 93' this one is an 08'

I've got a soft spot for Rangers for some reason. I've never owned one, but I really think I'd fall in love with one if I bought one. They were the last of the true mini trucks made.
