81 Plymouth Champ

Anyone have experience with these cars? Im trying to find some info on the idle control/emissions control system but am striking out. Also looking for info on the fuel system as well.

Car idles at about 2k. Disconnect wiring to the carb and it will come back down yet run like crap. Ive got experience with the toyota carbs of the same era that have the idle control solenoid buried in the carb but dont have any with the mitsu setup.

Anyone dealt with this issue on one of these turd burglars before or happen to have a manual sitting around?

is it the old school Mitsubishi "Jet" style carb? Also, with my 80 Dodge D50 I had, i had problems with vacuum lines cracking. You'd be blasting along at 75mph (which is about as fast as it would go in 4th gear) and the engine would just stop. And then start back up again. It was actually kind of funny.

Vac line was cracked around a nipple (yes, I said nipple... shut up) and it would move a little making the engine quit. Move back into position, the engine would take back off again.

not saying that's your problem, but they are the same vintage Mitsusushi.

Good to know. It does have the Jet style carb on it. Friend of mines kid just bought this car and decided it was a good idea to disassemble the vac lines AND the carb. Just trying to reverse engineer it a bit to get it going.

I ordered a manual but its gonna be a few days till it hits my doorstep. Are the next few years of car similar enough that their tech data would be correct? Got to be someone who knows with all the K car love around here lol

Not a lot of K-Car in that little beast.

Awesome car, however. I haven't seen one of those since the 80s.

Those carbs can be a bit of a headache if they aren't hooked up right, I ended up in a similar mess with an '84 Corolla, ended up being a bad connection at the barometric pressure sensor.

Got er figured out. Extremely worn throttle shaft/bore and a horrendous vacuum leak. Kludged it enough the kid will probably pass emissions but we will see. Hes gonna need to replace the carb or bush the throttle plate to actually fix the thing. Cars worth it and seems to drive pretty damn well. Engine is healthy cept for the fuel system.
