So after changing the master cylinder, I attempted to bleed the brakes, and heard squirting somewhere. It turns out I have a busted brake line. That would be all well and good, but 900's have their brake lines run on the INSIDE of the car along the floor. Good thing I was planning on pulling the carpet any way.

They did that perhaps to protect them from corrosion? Joke.

That's always nice for rally car builds (Subaru does the same), no brake lines to rip off the underside of the car.

Probably a great concept as long as some ass wipe doesn't let the car sit for years with a hole in the roof!

So.... guess what I was looking at today? I may have fallen in love.

I love the Minilite style Ronal wheels... the fat mud flaps... throw 2 Hella 5000 driving lights on the front, install some Finnish snow tires that you can't pronounce the name of, buy a tweed jacket with elbow patches and she'd just be LOVIN' it.

That is freaking cool. Needs a greenpeace sticker though! Mid 80's I assume?

Any rot? I guess the lower control arm mounting point is the worst spot. I have receipts for mine being welded in 2003.

It's an '85, non-turbo.

I slid underneath and it looks really solid... low mileage on the thing, too.

He's gonna call me on sunday.

Something I didn't know- All the bits from a 900 Turbo are bolt on to the N/A engine, it's the same engine otherwise.

Haven't seen that since the Chrysler 2.2!

Oh bandi, we had one of those as a field car during my misspent youth. Buddy finally killed it in the creek.

Hah! I had more than a few field cars.

The only one I couldn't kill was an '87 Hyundai Excel sedan... I traded a snowmobile engine for it, used it as a field car, sold it for $500 to some REALLY stupid kid, he gave it back a few months later, I used it as a field car for 2 months, sold it for $200 to a really stupid kid, he gave it back a few months later, used it as a field car, got it stuck in the forest and found it in the scrapyard about 6 months later. And it started for me.

Sad part about this one, it was cherry in the begining. Less than 30k miles and it was a 84 or 85 model. This was in 93ish. Sigh, I didn't really care for it but she was a trooper. The things that will kill a car are poor care, poor customization and poor paperwork. The last one sealed this ones fate. Lamar (Farmer next door) bought it for his wife in 92 for a good price, three grand I think. He gave the guy half and once he got the title he would get the other half ( Car was in Florida if I remember right). It was delivered like it was suppose to be but the fella never would answer his phone. Finally someone answered and the old guy died the day after the car was shipped. His kids sent Lamar a letter wanting 5 more grand for the title. He told them to shove it up their ass, bring his 1500 back and they could have the damned car. It sat in his barn for a year and he never heard from em again. If you know farmers, if it's on the farm it will work for it taking up space. The hatch came off, a torch came out and it lost the bit above the back bumper and some roof and became a round bale hay hauler. Did pretty good for about a year then it started cracking in between the rear struts area. So, field car it became. I think it had about 33k on it when it finally nosed into the creek and sucked up a gallon or 2 of water.

A car you eventually destroy in a field/the wilderness by driving it like a maniac.

Probably the best way to become a good driver if you live in the country, by age 15 I knew how to regain control of a car in most out of control situations.

I have video somewhere of a rotten 1990ish Z24 convertible catching some pretty incredible air. The convertible top wouldn't reach the top of the windshield after that.

Started poking around underneath the undercoating and found the dreaded control arm rot. Lovely.
