Chick Fil A & Dan Cathy

So this has been blowing up in the news. My thoughts:

1. People who say "I just want to support Mr. Cathy's right to free speech" - don't fucking turn around and say "SHUT UP AND SING" when some hollywood celebrity makes a political statement. Because you would be just so so SHOCKED and OFFENDED if someone told Dan Cathy "Shut up and serve me some fuckin' chicken."

2. Dan Cathy, in the same interivew, boasted how "we're all still married to our first wives. We give thanks to God for that."

If you are divorced, had a child out wedlock, or premarital sex, you are nothing but scum in Cathy's eyes. HE is holy and purer then driven snow. You are an unrepentant sinner. But, he'll be glad to take your money.

3. Dan Cathy says "we give thanks to God for that." HE can say thanks to God, implying that God directy intervenes in his life and grants him blessings.

You - not so much.

I think that since Dan Cathy holds himself so blessed and in such high regard, we sinners can now be cleansed by eating a chicken sandwich. Chick Fil A sandwiches now will take the place of Holy Communion. We will take this gift of Dan Cathy and eat of it, knowing his direct conduit to our Lord God.

Salvation can be had at the drive through window.

I'm truly apologetic for the fact that my sister worked there for five years.

I applied there, and they hired every employee's brother/sister except me. I now know that it was because I wasn't holy enough.

But he didn't say that. I don't know that he even implied that. It is indeed a free speech issue, and I have a feeling Boston's gonna take one on the chin should Chick-Fil-A ever decide to take their ban to court. AFAIK, there have been no case of them denying service to gays, not hiring non-Christians, or anything else discriminatory. The fact that they give money to anti-gay groups may be detestable, but it is well within their rights, and they are well within their rights to talk about it.

As a business decision, it might not be the best idea to announce it, since gay folks like deep-fried chicken nasty too, so they will go elsewhere for their artery-clogging.

Of course, we are also within our rights to boycott them and tell them what fucks they are. My son's ex-girlfriend worked there, and the boss had them do group prayers before they opened. Her dad's a lawyer, too, so I'm surprised they never did anything about that.

It's not even a free speech issue. It was just someone saying something.

I posted this on my Facebook.

Lets have an open honest talk about sexuality, religion, politics, and food. That is right, I want to talk about the Chick-Fil-A ordeal.
The first thing I would like to bring up is that I am 100% totally and completely for gay marriage. I don't understand how anyone could be against it. The whole sanctity of marriage argument went out the window when the national divorce rate hit 50%. On top of that, we straight folks are doing a horrible job protecting it anyway. We have people like Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian getting married for publicity or just for fun, it doesn't really strengthen the hold on it. Then on top of that we have people who get trophy wives, 49er chicks, people who marry for green cards, for tax breaks, and insurance. We as a society have failed the very notion of a pure marriage. So please lets all get off of our high horses. You have only been married once to the love of your life, great! I'm very proud that you did it right, but sadly most of America has not and will not get it right. So lets let folks who genuinely love each other get married. Hell maybe gay marriage will bring the divorce rate down and make us look a little better.
The second point I would like to make is that this Chick-Fil-A stuff is old news. If you truly cared about this as much as some of you acting like you do, then you would do a little bit of research and find out about the owners of every company you support. There are several websites you can use to find out if they support gay rights, if they support conservative or liberal candidates etc etc.
Thirdly, isn't what Cathy did one of the reasons this nation is so great. He voiced his opinion, in a polite manner. That's called free speech and it's amazing. On top of that did he sit there and say, "Man, we sure do hate them faggots. We hope they all get the AIDS and die. Also they can go to hell if they think we will hire them or sell our sandwiches to them!" He said nothing of the sort, the entire LGBT community can still eat there and work there if they want. No one is banned or discriminated against. Do I disagree with their stance? Absolutely, but until they start discriminating against the LGBT community, it doesn't matter.
So how about we all take a step back from being armchair boycotters and protesters, and start being proactive instead of reactive. Now excuse me, I have to go to Taco Bell, at least they love everyone.

Okay, so we're doing that. Here's mine.

So, I stopped going to Chick-Fil-A about 20 years ago because of their "core values." I'm not sure why it took other people so long to show up on this. I don't care if people like delicious chicken sandwiches. I simply decided long ago that I do not want my money going to support their "biblically-based principles," because basing anything on the Bible is both idiotic and often harmful to the good of humanity. Their recent stupidity was no surprise to me.

What I can't understand at all is people going out of their way to support Chick-Fil-A as a response to them publicly taking a decidedly anti-Christian stance. It appears to be endemic of the conservative psychosis that has spread over the last 30 years. There is no logic or morality that can overcome it. I pity those people who are trapped in their little boxes of hate and distrust, but I have hope that humanity will survive them.

True he has had this stance for a long time.

Sometimes, it's not what is said, it's how it is said.

Cathy came across as glib "well, guilty as charged" and ultra-smug "we're all still married to our first wives."

There's something about the smugness and self righteousness of fundies that digs at people.

Splumer said that Cathy didn't outright say that he looks down on the divorced. But he made the comment about being married to his first spouse for a reason - he is blessed, you aren't.

Shouldn't someone be proud that they have never been divorced? Is there anyone here who is glad they couldn't salvage their marriage?

We adopted a ferret once named Sunny D. Weezel. She was old and sick and couldn't eat hard food any more. She was even having trouble processing canned food. So the vet say give her whatever you can get her to eat. We knew from when she was healthier that she liked pizza and fried chicken. Since pizza is a mess when you give it to a sick ferret, we got her Chick Fil A. We tore it into little strips and put it in her bowl...

And it sat there.

We got her a Husson's sausage pizza. She ate so much of it I thought she would pop. Then we gave her a bath.

Not wanting to bath her several time s a day, we decided to try KFC. She ate it right up as fast as we could give it to her. She lived on KFC chicken, Gatorade, and mashed potatoes for almost two months till the tumors that were killing her got so big she was obviously in constant pain (back then surgery on a ferret was ungodly expensive. The $3000 price tag was why we had been given her in the first place.) Up till that point she was much more active, perky, and playful than she had been the entire time we were trying to feed her normal food.

Let me drive this point home...a small carnivorous mammal with a high metabolic rate that hadn't kept down any food in over twenty four hours turned up it's nose at ChickFilA's chicken. I didn't find out about ChickFilA's "traditional values" stance till the late 90's, but it didn't matter. If a starving ferret will not eat your chicken I'm gonna take the hint. The trip to get Sunny's chicken was the last time I patronized them.

I've eaten there twice. Both times the service was shitty and the food shittier. I thought I was going to barf last time I ate it. Never again, and not just for political reasons.

I have been to Chik-Fill-Aye exactly twice.
Once with Manvil when we were in the bowels of Appalachia.
Shortly after, I took my 2 oldest kids to the one in Winchester, VA ...
As soon as we sat down with our phood, 3 older women approached us (they had kids in there too) and asked to pray with us over our "meals."
I said a brief prayer to my dark lord Satan which REALLY irked the trio.
That was 2010. Last time I ever set foot in one.

Apparently Mr. Fil-A was trying to get Bible classes in a OK public school, but after the threat of legal action backed down.
