Fun RWD under3K

Okay, so I seem to never have time to work on my bug, and the civic has caused me to forget how much I love driving and cars. I need something to bring me back into the fun of driving. I have been considering a few options including old RX7, E30 BMW, ummmm I know there were more, but I forget. No one say mustang, it is NOT an option.

Hey yeah you, fat ass. Not interested.

ever notice some of the shittier cars out there can be a blast to drive, the most fun i ever had was with a "i dont give a shit" 1991 4 door automatic, 3 cyl chevy sprint that i had for a loaner. i kicked the shit out of that car and it kept going.

Except you're forgetting that drift tax has made all of those too expensive. RWD Celicas and older Z cars normally require a ton of work to make them clean and rust free.

For $3000, you can get yourself into an early NB Miata. Look for one with a bad top, they're available for about $160 on eBay. Takes an afternoon and a case of beer to install. Look for one with a working Torsen. British Racing Green cars are worth more in some circles, as are the 10AE and the Yellow cars.

My neighbor bought a datsun 280z for a couple hundred from some guy who had it sitting in his yard for three years. "If you can get it started and off the lot, take it, I'm tired of mowing around it." He put a new battery and spark plugs in and she fired right up. He handed him a fistful of cash and took off before the guy could reconsider.

So I have decided I "need" a 280z I won't really have any money for a week or two, but I did come across this.

BMW E30. They're still relatively cheap, you can't beat the sound of the inline six, and have that nice, classic BMW look.

If you have a Beetle, that's what I'd go with. Then I'd buy a Miata.

After having driven a few in anger, there's not a better RWD platform for such a low entry price. Drift tax hasn't hit them hard.

If you can get a Z, go for it. I've wanted a Z with an RB for a while now. Still over the $3000 price tag, but still would be worth it.

E30s are being eaten up by the Spec E30 guys much master than the Spec Miata guys are eating those up.

Any car that has a spec series is going to be a good platform.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but what about an E36 318Ti? Those are pretty fun cars, and are in the same price range.

Right now I'm somewhat torn between the E30 and the 280. It will depend on what shows up for the right price/condition.

I do miss my bug though.

I bought a pair for $500 in 2005. Both ran. One coupe, one hatchback. Both red.

What an overrated car.

I can understand that- I've been driving my '69 absolutely everywhere this year and there's nothing quite like it.

What's the bug need?

Brakes....fuck me sideways, brakes. I had some calipers on it from a ghia and they wouldn't release. I got new calipers and now I can't get any pressure to them. Grav bled, didn't empty my reservoir. Had someone pumping, nothing came out. Went to rear and broke a bleeder on my wheel cylinder. Haven't messed with it since. Also, need to rebuild the 34 icts. If I can get the brakes sorted out, I can get the engine timed, carbs rebuilt and it on the road in no time.

I fucking HATE brakes.
