the GTS was a ball to drive with the 2.5L Turbo and the High-Capacity 5speed. Also it WAS comfortable and as for holding value, well, that's always the foreign fallback.
but it's you and it's like arguing with a retarded child.

and yes, I am old enough to have driven these cars when new.

Ever drive an M5 of any kind? Pretty sure you'll give up on your domestic garbage after that

I have. It's a wonderful car. Had more fun throwing a Crown Vic around corners. And the grin factor is what counts in my world.

I've seen GTSs around Portland...a matter of fact, I've seen them by the BMW Shop that runs the BMW Club of Portland

So.....

Three exist maybe? I'm all for old turbo Mopars, but comparing a LeBaron to any BMW short of the Isetta is like comparing a... K car to a BMW! No one in the world has ever raved about what a fantastic, world class automobile the LeBaron was, or the races that were won in a vintage LeBaron, or the rally heritage of the LeBaron. Or the styling of the LeBaron. Or the sound of a LeBaron. The amazing handling of the LeBaron... there's no LeBaron museum in Munich. There was no Williams LeBaron F1 team... it's a car that will be forever ridiculed, and not because it was an amazing vehicle.

I really hope you get what I'm trying to say here. If not I'm going to be very sad.

Edit: and the LeBaron has never been called "the ultimate driving machine" either, and the McLaren F1 didn't have a LeBaron engine. It had a BMW engine.

ALSO: the 328e (what they used in that ad) had an engine called the "eta" which was designed to be fuel efficient with adequate torque and nothing more. So I'd hope a 2.2 turbo in a car that weighs a lot less would outperform that BMW. The 2.7 eta would have had about 120 horsepower and a redline of 4750 RPM.

And I've put two of them well over 500,000 km. A well maintained Chrysler 2.2 turbo has enough blowby at 150,000 km to fire the camshaft seal out of the cylinder head under boost.

oddly enough, yeah. the kitsch factor is very high.
Also, when the fucker breaks down, i can fix it quick and cheap.

seriously... what happens when the timing belt breaks on a 2.5L? Nothing. It just snaps. La-di-fucking-da. You can change the fucker in a parking lot. Besides, the Beemer has so much elitist baggage with it. Ever notice its assholes that drive M-series Beemers? 9 times out of 10, they don't appreciate the car for what it is or what it can do. It;s just some jersey shore status symbol and they're pissed they couldn't afford a Ferarri. Also, why is it Beemer guys have such a fucking little man syndrome? And before everyone goes bonkeroo, it's NOT ALL BMW guys... fuck a duck, i've run into this with other makes, Fox-body Mustang guys coming to mind.

and to be honest, rather than the Lebaron, if I could get away with a Shadow, Lancer or Omni, all the better.

Going sideways in a bimmer gripping that gripping that thick steering wheel and putting the car sideways out of a turn is such a fun feeling

And the N54, the tuning possibilities on it are insane, we just built one running 500 wheel using modified stock turbos, this engine is almost like a new age 2jz

The thing I always preferred about my BMWs over a mid 80s Dodge was they weren't mid 80s Dodges.

And the LeBaron coupe was a joke. It was like the old man's Daytona, for the old man who couldn't afford a LeBaron convertible.

..and just for the record- I've had:
An '86 Omni GLH-S
an '85 Omni GLH
an '85 Omni
2 '86 Horizons
an '85 Chrysler Laser
an '86 Daytona Turbo Z
'86 Laser
an '84 Laser
an '85 Laser XT
an '85 Laser XE
an '87 Daytona Pacifica
a '90 Daytona ES
a '90 Daytona base model (but with a turbo and t-tops??? weird car.)
a '93 Daytona 3.0
an '87 Shadow
an '88 Sundance
'86 Aries
'87 Reliant
'85 Dodge 600 Turbo
'84 Plymouth Caravelle
'86 Caravan
'88 Caravan 5 speed turbo
'90 Caravan
'91 Caravan

And although I had fun with most of them... not a single one of them was even remotely comparable to even the most worn out BMW I've driven.

However, I would blow a reindeer to get my GLH, GLH-S or my Turbo Z back.

But I'd blow two reindeer to get my '89 BMW 325is Hartge back.
