Holy shit the roads still suck here! 3-lanes going one way are down to 1.5 in some places. 2-lanes one way go down to one without warning in other areas. Scary shit... and in the Fiero I can barely see over the piles on the corners.

aren't winter tires mandatory in Quebec by law?

there is one constant on Interstate 87 between Exit 27 and Exit 39... Quebec-plated cars going way TOO FUCKING FAST having to be fished out of the median.

Yeah, snowtires make a HUGE difference.
(not)

yup and most of them are assholes like me who hate the law so we buy our snowtires at the junkyard with just enough tread to be legal. I got 2 of my snowtires on those funky mid 90s sinfire mags! (the junk yard sells em mounted)

Snow tires at least are less annoying to put on than chains...gahh.

I hate putting on chains when certain roads in Oregon winter require them. Fortunately, the only road I do go over, Highway 26 over to Mt Hood, they only require you have them "ready" in the winter and even then, I never get asked because I know most of the sheriff's deputies who do the spot checks and I am up there for SAR operations anyways.

Out here in the West, snow isn't the big problem, it's ice. It's so fucking cold here that sand/salt won't work to melt the ice, so all they can do is plow the snow and leave the layer of ice underneath. All winter long we're driving we don't see much bare pavement

They use deicer here in Oregon which works pretty well except ODOT loves to spray it before a storm like it's going out of style so if the storm was not that bad, your car is covered in that shit.
