I pulled up to a light that leads onto a highway with an econobox cobalt to my left. 4door with black steel wheels and the extra boring taillights. boring looking 40something guy driving.

definitely not an ss, or so i thought...

needless to say, this gent did some body panel swapping. light turned green and i stomped on it. next to me? a car that sounds an awful lot like what i would imagine an angry cat in a blender would sound like. going much faster than me. i quit at about 85 and he was still pulling.

well shit. congrats sam? i guess youve got good taste in cheap and stealthy performance.

My ex-father-in-law had an old beat up 70s Firebird. Rusted panels, sounded like a real junker, etc...

But when he got on it, it'd lay down the rubber. Talk about a sleeper.

Ya gotta' love sleepers! Nothing like beating the pants off of someone with performance stickers all over their ride.

I've been a Hot/Street Rodder for many many years, I can remember driving over the grapevine in 1979 or so. I had a '68 Road Runner with a 440 Magnum, highrise, Holly, headers, super beefed 727 trans.

Three friends and I were headed up to spend the holiday weekend camping along the Kern river. (party)

Buzzing along about 85mph, we passed a stock lookin' '67 Camaro, well he passed me right back at about 95mph. I noticed he and his lady both had gray hair.
So I figured I'd pass him once more and he'd puss out, bein' old and all.

Well he saw me comin' up on his tail, so he throttled on up, as did I. Well I got up to 145mph, and I still couldn't pass that old bastard. I wasn't real confident with my super budget used tires, so I let him go.........

Well I took a lot of ribbing the rest of the way out to the river.........

I was vindicated when we awoke to two of my tires completely devoid of air.

Glad I pussed out!

X11 was only a high output 2.8L
for it's time, it was a badass little car.

I had one, an 81 model (which is usually top of the list in desirability for these cars)... this is how it ended up after I destroyed the engine:

i had sold the engine, transmission, wheels, hood, hatchback, spoiler and factory louvers off the hatchback and it was waiting to go the crush...this pic was taken in December 1990.
If I only knew then what I know now... (i still get misty over this car)
