So yeah. An eighty foot tree landed on my car this morning, nice thing to wake up to. FML. It was twenty years old but it was all I had for now. It doesn't look bad but I take the suspension and such is f*cked?

If you don't mind driving a hooptie with roof damage, remove said tree and have fun driving it into the ground. Might need to replace a tire or two if you let it sit on it long enough to pop them.

PS- Better get a tarp or duct tape and clear garbage bags if you keep it.

Perhaps but this shitty hooptie was all I had to drive for now. Not sure if the tires are okay, but I'm surprised the glass held out with the weight from the tree. I don't really want to find out if it's okay though,I'm in a rural area with mostly highway driving. Fuck.

Honestly, aside from the obvious dent-age, the car looks fine. Shouldn't have to worry about the suspension or anything breaking. If you're that worried, once you remove the tree, drive it down the road really slow and let go of the wheel. If it drives the way it did before the tree fell on it, you're good.

homeowner's insurance.

I'm renting from my aunt and uncle who are saying nothing yet except how funny this is. Not to mention they haven't acknowledged that it's their tree. They didn't come over when it happened and the town workers left the stump which was rotted to an impressive degree. The car isn't worth anything really but yeah, now I'm out a vehicle.

you're aunt and uncle won't be laughing when you instruct them that their homeowners insurance (if the tree was on their property) now owes you a replacement car.

They were planning on coming over to visit tonight,we'll see if they show up then. Somehow I doubt it. They live here in town and just about everyone else has driven by to check it out except them,I'll see what they have to say tonight.

Hopefully their homeowners insurance will cover "Acts of God". Not all policies endorse that.

That sucks girlfriend; good luck to you!

From the pics, it should be fine. Maybe dented up a little, but fine. Hell hop in it and pull out from under the tree

A neighbour who was driving up the road when the tree fell went and notified the twon about it (there's a good sized house hidden behind in pic 2,that's how big the tree was). The workers showed up right away and it took them an hour and a half to clear it. They had a hoist of some sort to pull it up. People have been driving by all day checking out the damage to the car and the rotted stump left on the lawn. I told my uncle about and he lol'd and marvelled at my shitty luck. He seems to have gone silent now since it's likely occured to him that it's his tree. If it isn't his tree then it's on town property so I'll have to go to them,I don't know. Not worth it really.

I only have basic coverage on the car because it's so old.I'm thinking I'm SOL. The car is still drivable but the roof is punched in pretty good, the rear window frames are bent (hello rain). I could tolerate driving such an old car in the first place but I think the newly added aesthetic appeal of it is a little much for me,meh.

Thanks for letting me vent, much appreciated.

Dude, its almost summer. You have a large hoop with a damaged roof. I have one thing to say. Sawzall. Cut the roof off, and enjoy it all summer. I mean it cut that sumbitch right off, leavin the windshield. Now you windshield will crack, and of course it will get rained in but thats not the point. The point is, you got nothing to lose and a convertable to gain. Drive it all summer while saving money up for a car by winter. That way you can save up for something decent, while riding in style and getting stories for a life time. I also suggest a epic roadtrip, sans roof.

Jeepdave,an Oldsmobile convertible is too la dee dah for my simple tastes. And perish the thought that the deluxe velour interior and vintage cassette player be soaked with rain. No,I think I'll just leave it parked out front,it's been a delightful conversation piece all day.

BTW,I received a Facebook message(though not a phone call) from my Uncle, fifteen minutes before they were to arrive tonight. It seems that apparently along with amnesia,my aunt has suddenly developed a severe case of narcolepsy and passed out cold. They won't be visiting after all tonight, fancy that.

There's nothing wrong with that car. I bet the doors still even open and close. If you started driving, the tree would come off and the day would be saved. More than once, we have had to roll the truck back onto the wheels, make sure there was oil still in it and continue on about the day.

The back doors won't close again if I open them but other than that and the dent on the roof,it has indeed survived. It even made the newspaper, which makes it extra special to still have to drive it.

to pop the roof out, remove the headliner. Yes, it comes out, just remove the trim plastic. Yes, it's a GM; that's what the exposed screwheads are for. Now, once you have the headliner out, take jack (scissor, hydraulic, whatever you got). Put the jack on the floorpan of the car and take a 2x4 of good length, enough to where it's almost touching the roof and start jacking. The roof will get to a point where it 'should' pop back into shape... as I said, this SHOULD work. If you stretch the steel, however, may not work.

we had to do with this with my friend Glendas' (yes her name was Glenda) old 84 Cadillac Coupe de Ville when a cedar tree fell on it. Looked good as new.

Thanks all!

Yeah,Uncle Buck has become a mini celebrity around here. But only because it's the car that simply won't die. The roof has that vinyl shite on it,a dubious feature of this 'luxury' 1989 beast. Some had suggested using one of those suction dealies from the outside but of course there wouldn't be enough suction to do it. Genious idea Sam,I'll pass it on. Thanks!
