good plan, poorly executed.
| | | | do i have the right to be annoyed? YOU DECIDE! < on 2/25/2010 4:05 AM > | Reply with Quote
| | | okay, sooooo. i know my way around a camera, and that's a known fact at my school. last friday a girl i know from school wrote on my facebook wall something along the lines of " hey i need a favor from you ". shes more of a friend of a friend, and only talks to me when she needs me to do somehting for her. so i said fine, what is it. and she says she needs photos for her college interview. so i'm thinking to myself, okay, whatever i know shes only using me for this but if i have the time i guess its good experience. i agree to accommodate HER schedule, and skip second (the class was canceled but i would have done homework) on the MONDAY and go to the beach downtown. its sooo freezing so we didn't stay long. we then went to a different place in town to a brick wall and did some photos. go the way back to school she was hungry, so we stopped at subway, and then went back to school( i packed a lunch so it was a waste of 15 mins for me). i'm now late for third (which is my lunch but still). so anyways, at lunch she sits with my group of friends and asks to see my camera FIVE times. its a canon 40D with a battery grip and a sigma 17-70. basically a shit ton of money and she wasn't being very careful. shes walking all around the caf showing people and stuff. she then asks for the originals, for me to edit them all and put them on a CD.... oh and she wants me to do it in my next class cause its a computers class. i told her no cause i didn't have the cord (lie, but i needed to do my work for that class) so shes asks me to edit them all, and add the originals, and the edited photos on a CD and she wanted them for the next day. so me, being the pushover i am, did it for her, it took about 1 1/2 hrs from start to finish to edit. so i wrote on her FB wall "i just finished your photos, if you see me in the hall tomorrow don't forget to ask me for them" and she replies with "alright i think you should put one up on facebook so i can see it haha" and i just didn't reply. i was not prepared to put anymore time into it than i already did. so the next day shes standing outside of my first period class to ask me for them. then later i see one on facebook.... and she gave me ZERO credit. i'm so pissed. i went so far out of my way to do this for her the LEAST she could do is be like "photo by olivia" considering it currently has like 30 comments and people are all "this is so nice!!!" i did not get paid to do this. i would be more than willing to do it for a friend, but i know shes just using me and that she will never help me out if i ever needed something. also, this is the second time this has happened.... last time she took all the photos i took and uploaded them to an album ... it make it look like she took them all. discuss.

| | | She's a dumb cunt, yes, that behavior won't get her far in college where people will just tell her to do it herself, true, but you knew all along she was using you and you let her. I mean, did you really expect that kind of a person to give you credit? You are smarter than that, you should have known. Smart girl, made a fool by some dumb cunt. You can do nothing, or you can approach her and politely tell her to give you credit for your work. Since this is for college, if she is a cunt about that too, then teach her what the grown up world is like and inform her that theft of photographs is not legal and that she either gives you credit or takes them down and doesn't use them. If she claims that there is no way to prove you took the photos...well we all know photos carry data. I bet she doesn't. I'm not saying take her to court or anything, I'm just saying it would be funny to scare her a little. : D Alternative plan: http://www.youtube...dQ&feature=related Personally, I like the alternative plan best!

Upon further reading: *It seems you're being too nice; you need to put your foot down sometimes and not be afraid to say no. Especially to those who have a tendency to walk all over others. With time one gets to know who those people are and develops tactful ways of dealing with them. *Equipment: this is going to sound harsh, but never let others you don't trust handle something valuable or expensive to you. Chances are, if they break it they won't know how much it meant to you or how much it costs. Sure, buddies Freddy or Jaye or Tammy can try it out because they're trusted, but bumbling Bill or bimbo Diana or slutty Suzan in cosmetics class that are probably used to dropping their 5 year old Nikon Coolpix out of their pockets, look and DON'T touch. *Credit: I've dealt with others who want to use my photos commercially/professionally. (My) Rule number one, credit is always given. (My) Rule number 2, the originals are not to be redistributed or used other than what's agreed upon. The outside exception to this would be if I take a photo of a friend and send it to them, I don't really mind if they use it as their facebook profile photo or such. I guess it's a trust thing. I agree with Dresden's view. If she wants to be a bitch about it, just say next time don't expect any favours (but I doubt most non-photography people in high school care much about photo copyrights). Oh well, lesson learned; it seems you knew what you were getting into.
