Back in November Jason Scott discovered “Nursery Cat” — a 1929 advertisement for “A Genuine Photograph of The Laughing Cat” complete with pre-internet LOL-era caption “Ha, Ha, Ha, It must be so!” Sadly, this excerpt from Parents Magazine is not the Original LOL, though it is an instructional marker in the history of Felines That Watch. In this case, we learn that Prohibition-era LOLcats are not only in ur nursery watchin’ ur infants, but that they LOL’d with a jaunty Jean-Luc Picard mastery of the situation.
