Damn snow finally arrived

The damn snow finally arrived around my place in southern Ontario, and because of the slippery roads and traction control, my wife crashed our Acadia today. She started to understeer through a very slight bend, there was ice under the snow, and she touched the brakes and it made it worse. She came off the brakes and attempted to use the throttle to put the truck into an oversteer position, but the damn traction control kicked-in and decided she actually wanted the brakes applied. The truck then left the road, hit a telephone pole, rotated around it, and rolled a couple of times into the trees / ditch.

Side airbags deployed, wheels were broken from suspension, headlights smashed, roof caved in, etc. She walked away without a scratch, bruise, or broken bone. Due to the fact she was travelling below the maximum speed limit and she had decent tires, she was not charged (helped that the police cruiser almost slid in beside her hahaha)

Now we have a rental caravan that is Front wheel drive while we wait to get bent-over by our insurance company. Worst part is, we had 0% financing, now the financing rate is over 5% to replace with another Acadia.

you're not the first person i have heard of having a hard time with traction control... it's more of a nuisance than anything else.
I thought the Acadias had an override switch on the dash or transmission selector?

The Acadia does have an override switch on the dash, and it was off. The system ignores the switch once the vehicle goes sideways a little bit, thinks it is about to roll. Sometimes, it becomes the cause of the rollover :)

5% still isn't bad... But not as good as 0%, of course.

Last winter my mom totaled my dad's Saturn, AND crashed her car into a snowy mountain (quite literally)...in the same winter. Van was okay, Saturn is in that big driving range in the sky.

Thanks, I'm glad she is alright too. We will replace the Acadia with another, hopefully we can purchase the rims from the insurance company from this one.

The actual rims seem okay, I believe they were 'pryed' off the car rather then blunt force. I'll inspect them closely before parting with any money.

I don't know if it would be a liability driving on rims that were in an accident, but it might be something to think about. Next accident the insurance company may pull out the ol' "Well, you were driving on rims that may have been defective or that were involved in an accident before, so we can't cover you". They can be sneaky bastards like that.

This is why brand new automobiles shipped by train, which are involved in serious train derailments must be scrapped, even if there was no or little damage done to them.

Keep it fuzzy.

They also like to throw away perfectly good child seats if they were in the car during a collision, even if not damaged at all... fuck that.

Also, I'll just 'sell' them to someone else if the insurance company asks. They are identical to the rims on our new Acadia, so they won't know which set is on the truck anyway. No way to actually trace them.
