I let school buses over, but it is because in Iowa, they have the same speed limit as the rest of the vehicles on the road. I guess that explains why they always take for-fucking-EVER to get over.... They must be afraid I'm going to suddenly stop waving them on and zoom up to pass them.
| Well thank you. I wish we had the same speed limits.. Yeah, sometimes it looks like someone is going to let me over, but in my mirror it's really hard to tell how close you are to the back of my bus. So if you're close, but you see I have enough room, to me it looks like I can't make it.. like you're closer. So if you flash your lights or something, that helps.

| I started flashing my lights a while ago. I was a waitress at a truck stop and had been run OFF the road by a semi that didn't bother looking to see if I was there. I was passing her at a decent speed and if she hadn't been busy smoking her cigarette and not bothering to watch for other cars, she never would have gotten into my lane. As it was, she completely took my lane and i JUST MISSED being hit by the trailer and obviously the vehicle BEHIND me, when I slammed my brakes on. I remember letting out one of those blood-curdling screams that you only make when you KNOW you're about to die. I spoke with some truckers and they told me to flash my lights repeatedly every time I'm passing a semi like that, as well as to speed up, and also to flash my lights once or twice when I'm back at a distance to let them know it is safe to get over. I like that they blink their tail lights at me to say thank you. It is cute.

| | | People who unexpectedly try to be nice but it's really more of a pain in the ass. Not people who let you merge into the lane when you put your blinker on, but people who do completely unexpected things to 'help' you out. Example 1: You're leaving a store but can't because there's a redlight about 100 feet away with a line of car stopped behind it blocking the path out of the parking lot. You wait the 30 seconds, the light turns green, the 10 cars start moving. Then the last motherfucking car you're waiting for to get out of the way doesn't move, wtf? Are they retarded or are they letting me out? Why? There's no other cars coming from either direction they're the last car, just GTFO of my way. I wait 1 more seconds to make sure they're serious and not going to go as soon as I pull out (which is now more difficult with this car blocking my view when they could be down the road by now). No movement from the other car, so I just start to creep out and then they creep to, WTF!?! We both stop again. The other driver waves me on while I try to dodge not getting creamed because of them blocking my view of the other lane of traffic. I get through, but it takes longer and is more complicated. Other car is also slowed down and backed up traffic behind it. Moral of the story: Just drive your fucking car and don't go out of the way to help when people aren't expecting it.
Example 2: (Happened yesterday) I'm turning left at a stop sign in the middle of a snow storm on a side street with no one else around at the time. There is another car coming towards me and he's going straight through the intersection. He was totally at the sign first and had the right of way. I sit and wait. Nothing. Two seconds pass, so I start go. He starts to creep too and we both stop again. I wait another second and he flashes his lights letting me know it's okay to go. WTF?! Why don't people realize that I normally don't cut people off at intersections. So when you expect me to take your right of way, it takes a me an extra second or to to make sure you're serious because your move is completely unexpected and unnecessary. Just drive your fucking vehicle like your supposed to. I could see if this was a traffic jam, but we're the only two cars around. It's much easier to just follow the rules of the road and not think about anything rather than play your weird ass'd 'who's going to let who go first' games. Real of the story: No one wants to drive behind or near the 'nice guy' driver. Because as nice and safe are you're trying to be, you're actually the opposite. Now go drive like an assshole! -trent

| | | Post by fedgeJoggers who jog down the side of the roadway when a sidewalk is available to them. I have no problem not veering away from them and blasting the horn at them. GTF on the sidewalk, jogging motherfocker! | There is this old guy, I'd say he's about 85 possibly close to 90. On my way to work at about 5:40 am it's still almost totally dark. This is a 4 lane road, separated by a grass median. Nice side walks on BOTH sides. Every single morning as I'm driving down, I see this old man sorta jog-walking TOWARDS me in MY Lane then he slowly jogs over to my other lane. Now if I had to get over to make a left hand turn and it was all taking place over one of those hills in the road, this guy would be dead. He's always wearing dark clothes and it's not like he moves fast. One day I didn't see him, I thought he must have died or something.. then I saw him 3 days ago on my way to work. I was kind of relieved. | I have the same issue.. especially in a bus. People either don't want me to go first, and before I have a chance to go, even though it's my turn, they speed ahead, making have to sit there even longer and get started on moving again... Or they want to let me go first, trying to be nice or something... and here I am in a school bus. If I go first, and they hit me, that's my job. Plus I have like 50 kids on the bus... they told me to flash my lights repeatedly every time I'm passing a semi like that, as well as to speed up, and also to flash my lights once or twice when I'm back at a distance to let them know it is safe to get over.
| I can't tell you how many times I've wondered why someone will pass me on the left flashing their lights. I thought maybe there was a cop or something.. Now I get it.
