It would do us all a world of good if people would just stop. Just because you have the ability to reproduce does not mean you have the obligation to. Stop breeding.

I agree with you man, trust me.
Also, this is not targeted at people here, so please don't flame, but it's the people with below average intelligence that seem to have no trouble breeding, so in a few thousand years, it'll probably be the stupid who populate the earth.
Maybe there's something in the water that can just sense that somebody has a below average intelligence level and lets them breed like rabbits.

Basically it's set in a future America in which the smart people, realizing how fucked up the world was getting, stopped wanting to have children. So that left only the idiots of society to reproduce.
My wife and I? No children for us. One trip to Wal-Mart will remind us why.

I whole heartedly agree 100%
Through the darkness of future's past The magician longs to see Once chants out between two worlds Fire, walk with me
Not only do I feel really badly for humanity as a whole right now, I actually feel bad for the misled children who thought it was okay for them to bring another person into this world. More so for the girl. They are never going to fully experience their youth because they are going to have another person that depends on them entirely, and will for at least 18 years. I can't imagine the quality of life for this child is going to be great, as I highly doubt that either a 20 year old or 16 year old have had the chance to settle themselves in a job that can pay to even put enough food on the table for the three of them. Our taxes are going to be paying for their welfare for years.
We need a license to drive a car or own a gun. We need to be approved in order to adopt a child. If it were not at the risk of ushering in a new state of totalitarianism, I would think that regulating one's right to procreate would be a beautiful thing.
I could keep ranting, but this site says it all much better than I ever could. Get into it.

It's not a rant.
People don't do enough soul searching before they have kids.
Case and point: my sister. She can't handle it because she's not ready.
Someone said something very very very true when it comes to marriage and kids...if you can't be completely unselfish, you aren't ready for either of them. Which means at least 50 to 75 percent of the people who get married aren't even close to being ready for marriage and kids.
The biggest problem I can see is that people don't think before they do things. Most people only see the good outside, not the shitty diaper inside.

So there's this guy at work here who weighs like 400 pounds. His wife is like 400 pounds too. They both had bypass operations and only lost like 100 pounds each. (bringing them to 400 pounds) They are both 40 years old. They decided they had to have a baby but they were too fat to even have thier body parts meet. They decided to get in vitro fertilization to the tune of 18 grand. The women had problems through out her whole pregnancy and it finally went so wrong that the baby was removed, early by cesarian. It's bones were all broken. It turned out that this baby had osteogenesis imperfecta. This is a condition where the bones are brittle and break for no reason. The doctors gave her a week to live, she lived like two weeks. Now this guy walks around holding pictures of her, he's got pictures of her ultrasound, a book about her, he held a walk to raise money, he's got her as a screen saver AND THEY ARE GOING TO TRY AGAIN!!!

You forgot to add my favorite verse from Michael Jackson's song Wanna be Startin' Somethin, and that would be "If you can't feed your baby; then don't have a baby". Or vice versa.
Also, don't have a baby if your a drug using alcoholic that can't even take care of yourself; because then people like me end up raising your kids. Yes, my dear sister, I'm talking to YOU!
And don't even get me started on the welfare collecting breeders who get knocked up again as soon as their youngest kid reaches school age so that they can continue collecting.

His age isn't want bothered me, his lack of concern for the mother and the child. It seemed like a really selfish time to be looking for something to do with a stranger.

Do you not think that that may be a reflection of his age?

It's weird how some dwell on the life choices of others. What business is it of yours what others do? It doesn't affect you so why care. You don't know them, they don't know you. Isn't there other, more important things to worry about? Then again some people shouldn't post up so much damn detail.

There's always someone available to belittle and whine about someone having kids before they are ready, but never anyone available to educate a person and help prevent it. My guess is that he didn't have anyone positive in his life to guide him, so he took what love he could get and his judgment was clouded. Now that he has a child, don't give him a hard time. Why don't you try to motivate him and help him out with suggestions on improving himself?

This has become a bit too personal... my thread isn't aimed just at this kid. The thread about his pregnant 16 year old girlfriend is just what set me off. I'm pissed off at humanity as a whole. We have too many mouths to feed and too few resources. We are destroying the earth at an exponential rate. Our standards of living decrease as the amount of people increase. People, smart stupid rich or poor, should stop breeding.

But in the United States it does effect me. You know, like my 23 year old cousin who just had this third kid while neither him or his wife can keep a job for more than two weeks. Guess who pays to feed those kids?
We can solve all of this by just instituting a law that says you need a license to have children. All you have to do is prove your a responsible individual and presto! Have all the children you want!

And who would determine the qualifications on what constitutes a "responsible individual?"......you? me? No thanks on that idea, we are not in China.

At risk of offending people...
...I believe in birth control in the water.
Take a test to prove you are a competent human being and prove that you are economically/emotionally stable.
Then, you will receive the antidote.
Somebody I know from high school is in prison for some drug related offense. In his meek defense, depending on circumstances (ie. dealing heroin to children= BAD, smoking a little bit of pot here and there = really should not warrant incarceration), I am not down with non-violent drug offenders serving prison sentences, but I will say this. He was granted permission to see his wife give birth to his son last spring. His girlfriend on the side gave birth to his other son in the same month. The dude was a total deadbeat in high school, so I have a hard time giving him the benefit of a doubt that he has a whole lot to contribute to society.
This guy is reproducing at twice the rate of many intelligent, hard working people I know in my age group.
