The other day, my roommate got a new fancy couch from her dad. We had to make space for it so we decided to get rid of the ugliest one in the house. I didn't just want to throw it down the stairs and last time I posted stuff in the "free" section on craigslist, I got hundreds of emails within the first two minutes.

I eventually posted this ad:

After filtering through the usual bullshit (including a 50 years old lady writing me a 700 words email on how my bamboo sticks look fresh and vigorous), I got an email from Mike.




We talk on the phone and he tells me it's exactly the size and color (?) he needs for his new apartment. But the paint job on his pick up was due in five days and he'd have to wait a bit. He even wanted to drop by and give me a beer deposit to secure the item before he could come take it away. Being nice and everything, I told him not to worry and that it was his.

He calls Friday, says the paint has to dry, I say fine come on Saturday or Sunday. I rush home and call him up during the week-end and leave a message. We're now Wednesday and I get this:

I made a thread a while back about the people on CL and how much they suck.

I currently have a beautiful condo at the beach for rent. I get tons of replies of people wanting to see it, but even after I make it abundantly clear that it is a 3 hour round trip for me, I still get these fucktards that blow me off without so much as a courtesy call.

A couple weeks ago I turned down a girl who was willing to drive to my hometown to give me a deposit. I told her it was rented, and that I was finalizing the transaction the next day. The guy blew me off, and I called her immediately. She told me she has just signed on something else.

So, not only did this guy tell me he wanted it, I blew off a party to go up there and finalize things. He didn't show up, didn't call, and wouldn't pick up his call. Not to mention that I lost the girl who was willing to drive the deposit down to me.

I've been debating about whether or not I'm going to let him know what a jackass I think he is. Thanks for the great idea; and I'll take more if anybody has 'em

With my two experiences using it, CL effing sucks and just draws creepy, rude, sketchy people out of the woodwork in your direction. Next time I'll probably just take out a real classified ad in a newspaper.

That canoe I was trying to sell, I just finally went and illegally dumped it by the bay. Someone grabbed with within a day. I got tired of all the BS and the people who wanted it but there was always something messing up the deal: Oh my car broke, oh I thought it was a different kind, oh I can't pay you, oh I'm a nasty whitetrash scumbag, etc, etc.

Oh, I did try to find an apartment on it once too. The guy lied about what town it was in, ended up being ghetto, lied (by omission) about the size of it, ended up being a creepy fuck. Got nasty when I called him when I was there to meet him, I told him I was around the corner and walking to the place, but he said he couldn't see me and called me a liar: I was around the corner you douche-nozzle! And then he ended up having this huge crazy boyle thing growing out of his neck...think tow truck driver in Harold and Kumar.


Fuck craigslist.

I sold a car on CL last year.

Of the 3 people that came to look at it, 2 were waiting on lawsuit settlement checks. One from a fall at k-mart, and the other from a school district who supposedly did not take care of their special needs child well enough.

Believe it or not, the k-mart girl bought it.
