| | | It might make me a heretic for saying that. But it's true, Gmail sucks. I hate it's mandatory grouping of emails by 'conversations'. That's great sometimes, but often sucks making things way to confusing. That's because it filters by subject line. For example, I posted the canoe on craigslist. Now I'm getting email from lots of people with the same subject line "canoe". A big jumble of multiple people's emails emails mixed together with my replies back to them sucks. I actually have to track this on paper because gmail is too confusing. I can't just use the client to make sure I've replied to each email. Another example is longer email threads from my job with multiple people on them responding with lots of replies and forwards. Occasionally one will make it to my personal gmail account. One was so confusing, I didn't even reply because I didn't know who sent it to me. And it wasn't as simple as just 'hit reply'. The email was broken into 3 sections by gmail, each one sent from a different person who somewhere contributed to the email chain, even though actually only 1 person sent me this email chain. As much as I hate Micro$soft their Exchange client/server, Windows XP SP2, networking protocols, and domain controllers are excellent. I think I might go back to using hotmail more just because Gmail sucks. It tries to be all trendy and streamlined. All I see on my end is a jumbled fucking mess. And no I don't just not understand email. I used to be a linux/win email admin for years. I could sent an email to you using a command line if necessary. It's just gmail that sucks.

| | | I love gmail, but simply because it allows me to easily disregard email. I gave up on email about 2 years ago. Now I essentially have a white list of email addresses that get forwarded to my phone, and the other few hundred emails I get a day just languish in 4 or 5 gmail accounts. I even filled a gmail account once. Every once in a while I will skim the list of recent email, but, meh... I don't really need to hear from anyone via email.

| | | Posted by trent My personal assumption is that the average people believes Gmail to be secure and reliable. Due to that, when people receive a spam or phishing email from a Gmail address it might give the spam just a little more weigh to the unsuspecting user as a legit email since it's coming from gmail.com instead of something@obviouslyfake.evildomain.ru which people would not trust.
| that is a silly assumption. there's plenty of "professional" popular domains one could use gmail.com hotmail.com live.com yahoo.com aol.com basically any *.edu
