| | | i've got a funny story for you about cordless electric lawnmowers... In 2001 and 2002, i worked for a company called Country Home Products. They sold the DR line of outdoor products, basically field and brush mowers, trimmer mowers, power wagons... anyways, they thought it would be a grand idea to sell a cordless electric lawnmower, so they got together with Briggs & Stratton and sold theirs... well, that wasn't good enough even though the B&S mowers were rock solid. The CHP management hooked up with a Chinese company to make them a cordless mower... it was yellow, plastic and looked cheap. And it broke... alot. So then, rather than back away, they got together for another one based on the first. It was red and black, and cheap, and broke alot. So much in fact that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission told them that they either fix it or recall it. There were about 10 of us over the phone techs, all with some mechanical or engineering background that told them in a product planning meeting that going with another cordless mower would probably do them in... so they did it anyway and let most of us go at the end of the season. problems with their junk mowers? Batteries control bars circuit boards safety keys shipping damage because they were so cheaply put together... they now sell a Neuton brand mower... still made by the same cheap Chinese company. I'm sorry, you can't replace a good old fashioned single cylinder four stroke engine. I use less than a quart of fuel each mowing... how much emissions can really be put in the atmosphere in 15 minutes? It's either that or a fucking goat.

| | | Posted by fedge I considering converting my backyard lawn to a garden for veggies. No more mowing and you get your own personal food supply.
| Hmm. Now there's a thought. Main mistake that CHP made was getting a Chinese company to build their product. That stuff's mostly shit with the higher quality stuff being plain old crap! Shutterbug works for a company that had to put up with a lot of recalls for stuff manufactured in China. High lead content, breaks too easily becoming a hazard and that's just the surface. Another point about these "Environmentally Friendly' mowers. When they get scrapped, the battery has to be properly disposed of. I'll stick with my gas mower thank you very much.

I would agree with you completly, with the exception of cordless drills... they are cheap, powerful, and very very conveinent on the jobsite. I want corded power for everything, except my drill (hammer drill should still be corded)
| all my power tools are corded with the exception of a Ridgid cordless 18v hammer drill. i have the Ridgid corded hammer drill, but i find the cordless hammer drill works fine for most jobs. most of my power tools and some hand tools tools are made by Ridgid, being a plumber their tools are outstanding. Ridgid now has a 4amp corded mini-sawzall with a built in LED, its great for tight spaces and has more then enough power.
| They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn! |
