I get the tiny black ants in my house in the summer, i cant keep anything out, or even in my cabinets. Dont know where they come from, even when there is nothing there, they are around my sink area in the kitchen. I think my next animal is going to be an anteater!

I KNOW!! And they started even earlier, about a month ago. Very strange indeed.

edit: Anteater sounds awesome...I might look into that

Oh, probably....I am sure. I think I will just make friends with them...to avoid any uprising, avoid pulling any floorboards up. That, or get bug bombed.

Try wiping the areas they are at with vinegar and water mixed 1 to 4.
Also, I have a central vaccumm, I pulled the canister apart, threw in some ant killer discs, and use my vaccumm to suck the little fuckers up.

I live in Brantford, and I had ants outside yesturday at my front door. When they are outside, I boil a kettle and give them a bath.

I once had them a few years ago. After some Googling and trial/error, I managed to kill them off. This was how:

-Buy the granules that you dump around the perimeter of your house. It's poison they take back to the nest.

-Buy some standard ant traps for inside.

-Leave no standing water. Even a few drops in the sink or tub. Ants need water too. Remove their water source.

-As Nvr2loud said, use vinegar, bleach, or other nasty cleaning products to clean your surfaces, especially where you're seeing the ants.

-More important while using cleaning products, create 'barriers' with the cleaning/chemical product. E.g. clean the floor at the base of your cupboards. The idea is to lay down an invisible layer of cleaning product that the ants have to climb over to get up onto the counter top. They done like it.

-Keep cleaning, even if everything is clean. Ants lay down an invisible scent trail for the other ants to follow to the food. Keep cleaning, destroy the scent trail, and replace it with bleach/chemical/vinegar. If you see any ants, kill them and then sanitize any area where you saw them and where they could have been.

-Of course leave no food, crumbs, open containers, standing water, un-rinsed pop cans. Like the water above, you also need to remove their food source. Keep all unopened bags in things like tupperware/ziplocks/the refrigerator/etc.

-Take the garbage out more often than normally necessary.

SUMMARY: Remove their food/water. Make them walk through chemicals. Make your place ant hell.

Good luck! Them little f**ks travel into my house from around pipes and any other tiny gap they can find on the first warm day. Sometimes I am not sure why I clean. They come check it out anyway.

If you can find the nest (I know it's not that environmentally friendly) but a bottle of fantastic poured down into it works wonders.

And yes, remove anything that would be open and attactive to them.

Glue traps, bait poisons, bait traps,

There are commercial barrier poisons that you can spray around your house and perimeter.

Go to Canadian Tire and pick up some stuff. Ussually they have an entire isle of the stuff.

I just got rid of some mice in the house. Little guys ate all the poison I set out one day. Haven't seen any sign that they're around anymore.

Interesting fact: Ants will not cross a chalk line. I did an experiment with some this past summer and it was amazing. I could channel hordes of ants into corrals and then trap them in a box.

That is awesome! I must try that this summer. I want to get them corralled in an area, and then make an elaborate maze/path for them to keep cycling through.

If you make a dimensional Escher-esque drawing to loop them through, will they explode from the improbability of it all?

I dunno. I think I have do divide by zero accomplish that. And I don't even know how to successfully do that. One thing at a time!

Some sites professing this phenomena:

http://answers.yah...80420051717AAqqjO1

http://www.prevent...thy.home/gardening

http://www.wikihow...Without-Pesticides

Although I did not find a site dedicated to the hours of fun you can have just diverting their paths, there were some helpful ideas on how to get rid of them.

Hmm. If I'm pissed at my neighbours then I'll just direct some ants over their way.
