What! I just got a card with them and there's been no mention of it to me. Sonofabitch! I hate to cancel the card after getting it so soon. Fuckers!

They are a brutal company to work with. I would not get rid of the card with credit being harder to get but..... Do not get close to a problem with them. They will not work with you. I had unemployment protection on that card. When I was laid off I tried to use the benefit. Well they told me that it should never been offered to me because of the state that I live in and they will pay me back for what they had charged me. I asked them to apply it to what I owed and they wouldn't do that. Upon finding out I was out of a job they dropped my credit line raised my rate and bang now I was over the limit with no money coming in. I tried to fight it and ended up with a lien on my house for a lousy $450 balance the ended up being $2000 in the end. I know of 3 other people that have had much worse issues with them. They will stalk you, call you non stop telling you to beg borrow and steal to pay it off.
Maybe keep the card and charge a small amount each month and pay it right off to keep it active in case of an emergency.

If any of you read MSN news online, Capital One has been consistantly listed as one of the worst credit card companies to deal with.
Just two weeks ago I got their sob story letter in the mail about their rates going up because of the economy, blah blah blah. They are a multi-million dollar operation. Hard to feel bad for them.
The first thing I did was pay that card off. I will use it only occasionally for small things, and thats only because the formula for credit scoring has also changed. Now, if you close out a card or leave it dormant, it can negatively affect your credit.

if you call the automated number and refuse the apr hike, they simply cancel your account in may.
granted i dont understand all of these different percentages and things, this one if you do this, this one if you dont do that etc, but i dont want this card anymore. lol.

All of this credit shit is getting very scary. My husband never carries a balance. They have raised his APR and they used to up his limit on a regular basis. Not anymore. He was going to cancel all but one card but his financial advisor said not to do that. Just charge a small amt each month. He charges $50 of gas each month on the cards and has that amt auto debited so that he is never late. I am betting they hate people like him.

the real story is that legislation passed that is putting an end to the fun and games that credit card companies have been getting away with, but since those law changes don't take effect for another few months... they're putting the fucks to everyone while they can. This whole 'because of the economy..." is a bullshit reason if there ever was one and they know it.

SOMEBODY has to pay their bills on time though so the company can stay afloat....so people like him need to exist while the companies wait for the trillions of dollars in fees they charge each person for being a tiny bit late hahaha.
my parents are like that. they have perfect credit. and no debts. and i hate them. lol.

I use Cap One for all my revolving purchases then pay it off each month. Have had the same card for 13 years now. The rewards suck anymore. I believe it's 100 points to the $ for travel miles and 200 points to the $ for all other rewards. I have been meaning to kill it for sometime now. I will likely keep it and use it to book travel since you NEVER want to reserve plane tickets with a brand new credit card!

I use to pay off my credit card every month...Then I had to charge $300 for college text books and $150 for some other BS thing for school. Since I have not re-started working I can't pay it off....So they decided to bump me to 9%$ interest rate since im not fully paying off the card every month now...

I used to work for Capital One. That was in the mid to late 1990's. I won't go into details about the company. I'll just say this - get rid of the card NOW!

My bank gave me a big line of credit, I didn't even ask for it. I received a letter saying "use it or we'll charge X amount for an "inactivity penalty". So I used it. Then I received a letter from the bank saying they wont charge the inactivity penalty and I don't have to use the line unless I want to "due to economic conditions being what they are".

i'm a firm believe in no credit cards. it always struck me as a big come on. With that said, last summer, I obtained an ExxonMobil gas card. It has a $300 limit and I ALWAYS pay way more than the $10 minimum payment. It's handy to have if your budget for the week goes a little wonky, or there are unexpected bills that pop up.
as for credit cards, i could never see having one. What sucks a big fat ballbag is the fact that you always HAVE to have one to even ebay anymore.
