I think the Soviet t-72 is the most underrated battle tank ever produced. Considering its main competition being the M1 Abrams with operators trained extensively in the US, i think its safe to say its bad reputation is due to the poor training the small countries who use the T-72 give their tank operators.

Im a big fan of the technology and image the Abrams gives, but i think the T-72 just looks bad ass with its lower stance and raw turret.

I agree. That thing looks much more menacing than an Abrams.

The Abrams is so smooth and clean in its operations. The T-72 just looks raw. I love it.

The T-72 is a piece of shit.
Were it made in the West with Western quality control, it may be a badass vehicle. . . . . maybe?
The first thing that strikes you when you are seated in a Soviet or Chinese vehicle vice a US vehicle is the creature comfort of it.
Soviet tanks have plywood seats . . . . you get the feeling that you aught not expect to live too terribly long in the thing.
Several Arab-Israeli wars, 2 Iraq wars, Afghanistan I and, Chechnya have shown the world the worth of Russian-made weapon platforms.

Yeah the T72 is junk. I mean its a good tank but compared to the M1A1/2 its a far cry from close. Its more comparable to the old M60 Patton.

But hell for a low income country you cant beat the T series tanks......or anything else Russian for that matter.

The T-72 does look quite formidable, albeit cramped. The Mark I is what I'm most familiar with, which I think was used by the Iraqis in Desert Storm.

I also believe that the Soviets were a man short on crew size. If I recall properly, the T-72 utilized an automated reloading mechanism, which was prone to jamming and actually slower than the M-1 Abrams in operation. Likewise, by not having a loader the T-72 had one less set of eyes for security.
