Posted by bandi Actually, as much as I like my kraut wagens and rice burners... the 3rd Gen Camaro is my guilty automotive pleasure. I do not have a mullet. I am not Italian. I just think they look awesome, and would totally drive a clean IROC or Z28. (NOW... were these cars available from the factory in grey primer? hahahaha)

I have an article i clipped from a 1982 issue of Car & Driver when the 1982 Camaro was released. As far as the 3rd Gen was concerned, it was a huge leap ahead from 2nd generation. In fact, the title of the article was "928 Aspirations, 924 Execution"
The 1982 cars were weak from a performance standpoint because of the engines/transmission they were saddled with. The 305 was equipped with awful Crossfire Fuel Injection TBI setup found in the Vette in 1984. It looked neat, but was just atrocious. Also California cars were only equipped with a 3speed automatic.
One thing that did always suck with the 3rd Gen Camaro/Firebird was the fact that if you wanted the Tuned-Port 350, you had to have the four-speed automatic. the T5 was just not strong enough for it. Hell, it was marginal behind the 305 and 302 HO in the Mustang!
Recently, I found an 83 or 84 Berlinetta shell here where I live and was toying with the idea of buying an Ecotec LNF crate motor, mating it to a Solstice 5gear, putting a Mustang 8.8 out back and trying to drift with it.
