Nah, cops use SWAT too much. It has to have something to do with being a bunch of para-military wannabees.

I know the media has stated this, but then with all the drug, gang, and violent issues the police have been facing, can you really blame them? Maybe they do, I don't really know, and the reports show issues that may in fact be rare, but they boost up more than they are. The media is known for this. So we can only speculate the facts.
Some of the reports I have heard, make me cringe, I will agree, but is that still as bad as the media says? Or more of their fear-mongering hype?

The problem with SWAT is not so much that it exists in many departments (to include relatively crime free communities) but in how it is being used. Nobody is mad the SWAT team exists for the time when there is a hostage situation in the bank, or when a warrant is being served on a known violent offender. The problem is they now have a habit of breaking into people's houses with grenades and machine guns for no good reason. There is call to aggressively enter a house to get a suspect when you know the man's routine and can pick him up when he arrives at work between 8:45 and 8:55 am every day. Or to use a swat team at all to go after a non-violent drug suspect based on shaky evidence.

You see, that is my point. DO we really know there was no reason? Or could it be they were given bad information. I have heard of two cases where Detectives gave the wrong information, and SWAT broke into the wrong house. In both cases the Detective was blamed by the station, but the media blamed SWAT.
So my question, is how many of these cases are the same way? I do not know, do you?
This is why I am reserve on this matter. If it is real then yes it needs to be dealt with. But on the other hand, if it is because of the media misreporting the situation again, then they need blamed for fear-mongering.
I cannot honestly take a side when there are too many questions unanswered.
