After reading countless forums and different advice for getting my software update to work, none of which were helpfull, I took it into my own hands. I checked out the console logs, and it was giving me shit about untarring a file. I did a get info on tar, and it was 0k, yeah, nothing there. So I tried to copy it over from another computer, but OSX said I didnt have access priveledges to do that. After a bit of searching, I got to sudo cp it in from the terminal, and everything is working well now.

I decided I would like to learn some more unix commands and stuff if I'm gonna be stuck with it. Can anyone reccomend a book or tutorial (online or printed.)?

Not for unix exactly, but for moving from Dos/Windows to Linux. http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DOS-Win-to-Linux-HOWTO.html#toc1

Might be able to get you started, assuming you have some DOS background.
