| | | Thought I would just poll the masses here. Anyone know of current and worthwhile ghost towns in Northern Quebec and Ontario? I would expect to find a lot more considering the state mining practices.

| | | schefferville quebec. go check out my old house for me.
When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store. |

| | | If you can make it to the the North Western portion of Ontario you can visit Burchell Lake. Its an hour or so from Thunder Bay and easy enough to find. albeit relatively boring.

| | | Most of the ghost towns in Northern Ontario are nothing more than an old barn or crumbling mill. It's not like what you'd see in, say California. The best one was probably Beren's River which had housing, railway equipment, a small jail and even a bowling alley. It existed up until a few years ago when most of it was demolished. From 35mm slides (circa 1980's) 1.

Also in Northern Ontario are mines to explore of course with plenty of industrial equipment and buildings on site. [last edit 1/20/2011 8:16 PM by Intrinsic - edited 1 times]

| | | Thanks for the responses. JoeCat, is Burchell Lake worth a trip at all? I'll be in Thunderbay so it is feasible if there is anything left worth exploring. Anything left of the copper mine?

| | | Theres nothing left of the mine. The Government cleaned that up long ago, its just a gavel pit now. There are plenty of homes left, a crumbling school house and a gas station. plus some other goodies for you to find. Part of the area is used by cottagers but stay out of their way/out of sight and youll be fine. overall its an okay way to spend an afternoon.
