I wonder when dickhead cops are going to figure out that threats, assaults, destruction of personal property, and jailing us without so much as a trumped-up probable cause only get them in deeper shit when the Department has to settle the case for a shit-ton of money, or risk a jury trail.

Probably never...

If this were about MP's, that comment would make sense. But, since it is about two shitty "regional cops", your comment makes as much sense as a screen door on a submarine.

It was more in response to this, "We'll, what do you expect from people who "sign up" for a job?"

Cops sign up, so do soldiers. Both more or less end up dead in the line of duty. And judging by the way the cops are becoming more hostile towards innocent civilians, I suspect it may not be long before the two are indistinguishable from each other.

But that's just my cynicism speaking.

The trouble with the militarization of the police force is three fold. Firstly, they are not properly trained to use the ever more military like gear they are acquiring. Secondly, they have an "Us v Them" mentality with citizens. Meaning they see citizens as the enemy, the citizens then see the police as enemies and they cycle feeds off of it's self. Soldiers, on the other hand, do not have this. They will gun down enemy combatants but then (if possible) treat the enemy's wounded and civilians properly. Thirdly, the military self-polices in a sens. Corruption is frowned upon and is put down within the ranks (to a degree) Police, however, will cover for each other to the point that they are flagrantly abusing power and no one can stop them because who is there to arrest them!?

I wonder why this is. Do they not realize doing this only feeds the cycle. Or do they no longer care and they no longer "Serve and Protect", and now "Detain and Harass".

The police force has always had a fraternity vibe, and they've always looked out for their own. Officers who dissent from that norm are ostracized and harassed, reassigned to shitty posts, and generally treated like shit until they quit.

Vid taping cops is a sure way to get on their bad side fast.
If you treat them like pigs you're a lot more likely the be treated like shit.
Their concern is understandable, and post 911 protocol, get use to it.

Once again the ACLU steps in, ever worthless and vigilant.
Talking to the chief would have resolved this better, maybe with an invite to shoot. dopes.
Sorry, but that's how things work.

Your security measures were inadequate.
How unfortunate for you.

Their concern is understandable? What is their understandable concern? That they'll be documented being abusive, harassing citizens, and ignoring laws/denying rights because it's inconvenient or makes them look foolish? Fuck that. They need to be held accountable just like everyone else and I don't give a shit if they don't like it. Also fuck the "Its post 9/11 deal with it" attitude. Like Franklin said, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty."

Cops don't want their voice because they don't want evidence of misconduct. That's really the sole reason that people are not allowed to record encounters with cops.

If they are doing their job right, what does it matter if they are being recorded or not? Especially if its just audio, its not really revealing their identity. If I were doing something completely right and properly, I wouldn't care if I were being recorded.

And saying that not allowing recording to protect the cops is ridiculous. Most cops wear a uniform so they CAN BE identified as being cops. They don't want to hide their identity as a cop for teh most part when going around an area. They generally want their presence and identity to be known. In short, cops want people to know who they are and what they are doing by wearing a uniform.

In order to protect citizens from possible misconduct by cops, its should be a legal right and a law for a citizen to record encounters with cops as long as these records are not manipulated to create false records such as by cutting certain things out of a recorded audio.

Two words : Smoke Bomb. I always carry one and some matches when I'm photographing bridges. light it and throw it on the ground and run. Nahh I would get in trouble for that, I just tell the dickbags that i have rights and say lets walk to the police station.
