My sweetie was struggling to see on one of the side counters. $30 later, I have a shiny new black Mag Lite mounted vertically, reflector off, to light it.

I haven't yet gotten a spacer made so that it takes AAs, of which she has plenty for other flashlights. This is also going to be her "Who the hell are you at my door" light.

I'd like to report that the Mag Lite official holders work quite well, with one holding the knurled part of the light sturdily over working space in the kitchen.

Yes, because AAs are more common, but the D cell light size is nice for other reasons. Using spacers to make the electrical contacts mate nicely is easy. Runtime might suffer a bit, but then using AAs makes it easy to switch batteries.

D cells are 33mm diameter and 65mm long.
AAs are 14mm diameter and 50mm long.

I have some knock-off Eneloop spacers bought off eBay that work quite well.

This was not nearly as ridiculous as advertised.

Still within the realm of its intended use. Totally sensible, not ridiculous.

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

A light being used as a light really isn't terribly ridiculous.

Unless one were to use a 6D Mag as a light for open heart surgery

Oh speaking of ridiculous thing for a flashlight. One of my professors has one in their office. Except her husband modified it to where it is now a flower vase. He made it so she could put it into her office and not worry about it being broken. Its a maglite but the part where the batteries go holds water. It sits on the wide part where the bulb is. It only holds 1 or two flowers but its neat.

Her husband...is a cop.

No. That's actually why we make them out of titanium.
