So was this a Shriner's scrapyard?

It was not. But the eccentric weirdo who owned the property had several vehicles that seemed more at home in a parade vs on the road. I am totally guessing at the parade vehicles, but it would make sense. There is no way that boat-car was ever street legal, and it would of sunk like a stone on the water.

Fun fact: The VW Microbus had the full camper package with kitchen, solid floors, and only 25k on the clock! Totally restorable. I'm not into them, but a lot of people were/are.

What the hell is going on with the front of that truck? Is that a light sticking out of its nose? An air intake?

1956 Sterling Fire Truck. That would be the siren! Some refer to it as a "bullet" siren.

But no pop top, which is odd. Early bay window buses like that one ('68-'71) are my favorite. Restorable but that's got some expensive lower body rot happening, so the frame rails and outriggers are probably pretty soft, too.

Seeing as it is parked on grass, and who knows for how long, I would have to agree the frame is probably close to if not completely gone. I did not look underneath. Surprisingly, the floor boards still appeared solid, at least from the inside.....

Imagine my surprise when I walked past these. Talk about ruining your day! I encountered the vehicles (there were several more than these two) on my hike back to my car after exploring an abandoned mining operation in the Colorado rockies. I assume that the cars themselves weren't worth the trouble of pulling out of this very remote and rugged terrain. The unlucky people inside of these cars almost certainly did not survive (the cliff is about 1,000 feet or so above).
Sorry for the shitty photos, but it had gotten dark and I'm a city girl, so being alone in the woods after nightfall is not my idea of fun. I stopped very briefly to shoot these with my phone and continued on my way.

For perspective, below is the cliff from which these vehicles hath fallen (there is a road up there at the tippity top that you can't see in the photo)... a few curves before where the photos were taken. I had to hike in about three miles to get to this location when I was there.

A lot of these cars could be saved if someone was willing to put in some time and money into it. For a lot of these the engines couldn't be saved but cars like the old American lead sleds were basically quarter inch steel bodies on anamantium frames. I'd say throw out the ld engines and turn those bad boys into electric sleepers like Icon does. They're so massive that fitting 50-60KWH of batteries in them is a non issue. I just wish I had enough money to save a lot of these cars from mother nature taking them for herself.

90 percent of the time, old cars that haven't moved in decades are owned by old guys "who are going to fix them up some day". We had a local guy with 200-300 cars on his property and he wouldn't sell a single one, he was going to fix them all. Last time I spoke to him he was 91. He either passed away or went into a home, because his house is boarded up and every single one of the cars was crushed on site.

Same thing happened here. He died and the family had zero clue what to do with them. It was close to 500 cars. They auctioned them off in lots. Some lots went for less than $100. If only I was older than 12.

The lots were 10 cars each. None of the cars were newer than 1978. Most were from the 50's and 60's.

Seems wasteful but man is a strange creature.
We all need hope to survive; perhaps that belief of fixing them gave him purpose.
Eventually time destroys all things material even stone is not immune.
Rather disconcerting.
