Thanks Dtew for putting on this impromptu explore. Is was great to see SpaceTimeCurvature and Boosted302 too. Even though Boosted stayed a whole five seconds. (sorry Boosted!) I also monkeyed around with Photoshop. I'm not sure if I like the inconsistent results. I guess it'll take some time to figure out how to use it.

Hey, you're always welcome, TRUE. And great to run with SpaceTimeCurvature and grab a fleeting glance of Boosted302 ;).

This site is one of my favorites for all the places I still haven't accessed here quite yet! (Next time...) It's so full of details and things, but I always am awed by the spaces, which is generally what I gravitate toward shooting. This time I spent most of my time preoccupied with catwalks and overhead cranes.

1. Steelhenge.

2.

3. "Viper Command, launch when ready."

4. Doc Ock's 'ockpit.

5. So close and yet so far.

6. The suspended tower.

7. Into the belly of the beast.

8. Scrappers are lowlifes that deserve a special place in hell. They will wreck multi-million dollar machinery of others just to scrape up a few dollars of copper for themselves.

These were the locomotion motors for a very large box-girder overhead crane. The box section is big enough to be the motor room and for people to walk thorough/service the motors within.

9. "♫Last Christmas... I gave you doughnuts...♫"

Yes, thanks DtEW for organizing. Good hanging out with you TRUE! Boosted, glad to have seen you for a microsecond!

I won't be able to post shots until next week, but I feel like I spent too much time figuring out setups with it being my first time there. I definitely need to revisit! Nice new work both DtEW and TRUE!

I was a little (ok a lot) leery of the catwalks but now that I see this perspective, I'm thinking I should get over that. Great shots from all!

dtew: shots 1, 3 and 4 are awesome. Killer light hitting just right in #1. #3 is the best black and white I've seen in PSW forum in a long time and the mood and colors in #4 are great, only wished you threw some fill in light in that black spot.
Makes me want to check this site out.

Cool stuff you guys (and gals). It would be good to meet some of you at some point.

How 'bout another meet and greet!?

Nice shots everyone, they all came out great.

TRUE, they don't look so inconsistent to me, maybe just a little too much hot sauce on the burrito. (Saturation) but other than that, you've come along way my friend.

I'll try to stay a little longer than 10 minutes next time but a guys got to get his UE fix some how right?

Thanks, free; you're much too kind. I'm just familiar with the shooting requirements of this place, have been here a few times.

I still need to go back as only two levels of the suspended tower are easily accessible. The rest of the levels above, including two levels of a very long platform, are either normally accessed by elevator (which of course is not available to us), or access to the stairs was deliberately removed. There seems to be two ways to a set of isolated (presumably to thwart access) stairs, but both ways require the sort of considerable exposure that I would be more comfortable harnessed-up, esp. all geared up (my cohorts might volunteer a joke or two about that one).

Dropped in Saturday night, didn't see any security but I wasn't there long. Not worth visiting in the dark, just big and scary I was able to get on the roof though.

Yeah, this is definitely not a place to explore at night. We got out precisely because dusk was falling, and Mr. Last Christmas had parked his dark green Civic at the front entrance to the northern building, presumably looking for any signs of lights within.

Good job on the roof access. You really should consider taking up photography. I think many of us would be enthused to see the crazy/weird/awesome perspectives you can come up with from your access prowess.

So spacetimecurvature, TRUE and I went back to this site to access the last part that was left unexplored: the tower.

To say that it was fruitful would be an understatement. The entire level was was more-or-less untouched. Even the sheet steel that was the raison d'etre for the plant laid within the finishing train, unscrapped.

Always fun to get out there with you two! For some reason I still can't figure out why I get a soft focus in nearly all of my shots. GRRR!!!

I often manual focus in low light/long exposure/lightpainting scenarios just to be sure. If it's dark. I use a high beam flashlight on the spot I want to be sharp and put it in to manual focus so the camera doesn't try to think too much.
I had several trips worth of photos that I felt were worthless once i got home and looked at them on the big screen due to the same problem you're having. Growing up shooting a Pentax K-1000 has kind of made me hate auto focus.
