Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I'm new to the forum and to Winnipeg, and looking for a group of UERs to explore with.

Anyone explored the old convent in St Adolphe? I'm planning a visit there soon. Not real sure if I should wait until I get a real camera though.

Do you Winnipegers ever do meet ups? I'd be interested to attend if there's any soon.

Looks like that big City of Wpg building on Plessis is up for demolition. Tons of windows smashed out and a gate around it.

Yeah I've been out on a couple meet ups But haven't heard of any since the beginning of the year Would love to attend some more as well; its fun exploring on your own but even more interesting and fun with other people.

Noticed it for a while. Did some digging online, possibly due to poor safety evaluations. Lots of stuff unchecked and not up to code i'm thinking.

Hi there, I am a new member, new to ue and so... here is the post from the very first ue I went on this past weekend. While the location I chose is within City of Winnipeg limits, it would be considered a rural property. The property had 1 house, 2 garages, 7 out-buildings (all empty), and a number of old cars. Since it was my first intentional exploration, it was a bit nervous sneaking onto a property off a busy road when I wasn't even totally sure it was abandoned, but all ended well. Here are the highlights...

View of the house and my friend climbing on the tower structure

House, Room #1 - Not blood, just decay

House, Room #2 - Thick door for whatever this area is supposed to be in the second room

Garage - the right side of the garage creeped me out

Garage - right side - an old convertible, something moved as soon as I set foot inside so I backed out pretty quick and didn't get a good look

Garage - left side - an old bug and a bunch of chains

This structure remains a mystery as it was inaccessible from all sides...

Six of the seven empty out-building, one had a ladder leading to a loft but I never checked it out.

There were two of these old Pontiacs sitting side-by-side in the trees, one was white, this one was black

Apologies for the quality of the photos. I really could have done better, and feel like I rushed through everything on the property a bit.. partly due to nerves and how close it was to being dark out. All in all, good times were had!

That's neat. Growing up, I remember seeing more of these old farmhouses within city limits. One that comes into mind is the old farmhouse off of Peguis street. I remember seeing cattle outside as a kid, with an old barn leaning precariously. Over the years the barn looked worse and worse until we finally drove past one day and it had collapsed.

There's still one old farm kicking around, corner of Grassie and Plessis. It was up for sale a few years ago. When I called an old man answered and was asking 750k for the house and property. Again, as a kid I can remember goats chilling in the yard next to a couple rusted out VW busses. It looks like somebody is still living there, perhaps the same old guy who answered the phone. Maybe he sold the property, with the possession taking place once he moves into a nursing home or passes away.

There aren't many of these homes left, but they always fascinate me as the last vestiges of a forgotten period when Winnipeg wasn't nearly as big as it is now. What I wouldn't give to own a farm sized property within the city...

I completely remember driving by and seeing the old man in his yard at the corner there, tending to his goats and looking like he was stuck in time or something. Every time he was out, he was a sight to be seen. I have seen goats there as recent as five years ago, but have not seen him out and about in at least 10 years, mind you I no longer live in transcona so I only drive by when visiting relatives these days. He is probably still putting around living his life the way he wants off his land -- I vaguely remember stories of him being angry with people and disliking the outside world so that is cool if you did speak with him on the phone! I will try and confirm some of these stories, but he is definitely fascinating nonetheless and has withstood the test of time.

These old farmhouses around the city seem to bring out stories with almost everyone I talk to.. and they seem to be everywhere in Manitoba. I remember being in a few others in south side transcona, one in particular i visited circa 97 was filled with really nice, old tv sets. In any case, thanks for the comment.

Here are a few photos from earlier today, taken just a few metres from the red river, south of the city. I literally stumbled into it at work and only had time to pop my head in for a quick photo. Just noticed the old motorcyle in the back as I was cropping it to post here.

Cheers
