I've been working my way through my Flickr in chronological order since joining here, but I just shot these yesterday (first explore of 2011!) so I'm going to post them now. It was a decent-sized farm, with two homes and roughly 18 different outbuildings with empty acreage as far as the eye could see.

1

2
House #1

3
This house had my hair standing on end the whole time I was in here. I thought at first it was just initial-entry jitters, but it intensified the deeper I explored.

4
1983: a very good year. For me. Not for this house, apparently.

5
The house had been pretty much emptied and gutted. Wall innards spewed out of water-damaged wallpaper.

6

7
I had a distinct sense of being watched as I took this photo.

8
Pipes hung down at odd angles from the ceilings.

9
I lost count of how many rooms there were. They were huge and all connected like a maze. I got turned around several times which was very unnerving in a house that was already giving me a creepy vibe.

10
One of three staircases. At this point I felt like something or someone was waiting impatiently for me to leave. Every time my tripod clacked on the floor or I crunched some glass underfoot, I got a sense that I was being an annoyance, too intruding, making too much noise.

11
I didn't linger long in the first house. I felt very unwelcome and didn't want to hang around trying to get artistic shots. It was a pity because the house was massive and gorgeous and I could have easily spent all afternoon in there. Once I went outside I felt much more at ease.

12

13
As I walked around the rear of House #1, I saw a dark shape dart behind another building. It could've been an animal, but I looked and didn't see one, and tried moving my head in the same way to see if it was a trick of the light on my glasses, but wasn't able to replicate it. It was tall and moved like a hunched over person hurrying away.

14
Obligatory "pretty flowers with abandoned house in background" shots.

15

16
House #2

17
Rear of House #2 (wow, the exposure looks really weird on this one, sorry about that)

18
This house was a much simpler, more modest farmhouse than the first, and didn't harbor any spookiness.

19

20
Puzzle pieces and a rubber mouse. Most of upstairs looked like this.

21
View of House #1

22

23
A little roofless shed outside House #2 was so overgrown I couldn't get in the door. My camera did though.

24
Chicken coop?

25
Inside one of many, many stables/barns/outbuilding dealies. It smelled like musty hay and old manure in here. Wonderful (no, really, I like that smell).

26

27

28
What rolls down stairs, alone or in pairs, rolls over your neighbor's dog? (P.S. Camouflage chair is camouflaged.)

29

30
First of several groundhog remains.

31

32
An old booklet on how to care for a baby. Odd thing to find in a barn.

33

34

35
A (live) groundhog startled me when I caught him peeking out of this...thing (cistern? I dunno).

36

37
Leftovers courtesy of the vultures swooping overhead (or as city urbexers say, "all the beautiful hawks flying over us!"). After this grisly sight, I dubbed the site Groundhog Farm.

38

42

43
A not-so-Super Rad Portrait. Derp.

44

45
That's one thorny-ass tree.

46
As I walked down this road to leave, I heard the distinct sound of windchimes. I thought maybe it was my keys jingling and echoing off the buildings, so I stood still for a moment and the sound continued. I could've sworn that I heard laughter interspersed with the chimes too. There was absolutely nothing around that could've made that sound. The farm sits in an industrial park, so the only things nearby are factories (which were all empty on a Sunday) and vacant farmland. I'm not one of those people who goes "ZOMGGHOSTZORS!!!" when my camera strap falls in a picture, but I definitely think there's something supernatural going on here. Will be interesting to see if I can dig up any history on this place.

Someone has been using the property to store a few things. There were plastic pipes, rolls of new fencing, new fenceposts, and other assorted recent-ish machinery sitting around, along with tire trails and piles of fill dirt. Near House #1 was a shiny new chain link dog kennel with some locked boxes inside that were humming loudly. I wonder if there's any way I can find out who's using the property and see if they know anything about what happened to the people who lived here without directly saying, "Yeah, I was poking around in your stuff and now I'm going to get even more nosy." Ideas?

Edit to say: Sorry if this was a huge post. I took over 400 photos over the course of 2 hours, and tried to narrow it down to what I felt were the better ones.

There's still a meter in the meter base. Unless the drop line has been taken loose at the transformer, this house still has power.
-Sorry, job-related knowledge.

I carry a circuit alert I use at work when I check out old houses. You could put one up to that meter and know for sure whether it's got juice.
If that's a stolen meter someone's slapped in there it might be that your sensation of being watched was with good reason: someone's squatting there.
Seems unlikely, but I've found people living in houses in worse shape than this.

It's a damn shame about that place. It must have been something in it's heyday.

It's entirely likely it still has power. There were....I don't know what they are exactly, but stumps of plastic pipe with caps on the end and numbers painted on sticking out the ground, with locks on them, here and there. Along with all the other current-looking things (the chair especially). Somebody's using it for SOMETHING.

I went in pretty much every room, I think, so if someone was there they must've been in either the attic or the basement (I don't do attics or basements) or they saw me coming and hid.

Edit: and the asshole must've had some wind chimes.
