So I'm thinking that it is time for a new 4x5. The Crown Graphic was a great learner, but now I want something with a little more capability. Right now I'm thinking Chamonix. Anyone here use one?

I hadn't heard of them before. They look like nice cameras though... compact and plenty of rise/fall on the front standard. The price is pretty reasonable too and I see there's Bag Bellows available.

I'd also suggest checking out 2x3 options. View cameras in that size are harder to find but you'll get a 6x9cm Negative out of a camera barely bigger than a DSLR.

For small negative stuff, I have my Pentax 645. 4x5 will tide me over until I can start doing 20x24.

Yes, it is highly recommended. I've been using a 4x5 chamonix as my primary camera for over 2 years.

April is now May... maybe...

So, I'm considering a Shen-Hao HZX IIA.

Ended up going with the Shen-Hao PTB, which is essentially the same design at the Chamonix

Very pretty!

And it looks pretty light for a field camera.
