Abandoned hotel near Vancouver, WA...

What is this thing? I see no activities and although barricaded, leaves, trash, etc are accumulating inside showing signs of abandonment.

I would like to explore it... but I don't know if reward to risk is worth it...

I think this might of been the other hotel owned by the same people as the Greenwood Inn.

That is the Thunderbird Hotel. It has been empty for quite awhile now, back in 2006 there were talks of turning it into a Wal-Mart.

Last I heard it was locked up tight and all the windows were still intact, but that was a couple of years ago.
I've been meaning to head over there and check it out soon.

I don't want to sound like a hater here... perhaps this is just a cultural gap. But I learned to explore in the midwest- and back there- if you see something empty/interesting/accessible- you explore it. Wham-Bam-Thank-You-M'am.

Making a scouting post doesn't really get you anywhere man- considering the pros and cons in any kind of extended fashion just makes matters more difficult, IMO. The more you debate the matter, the harder it'll get. The risks are prety similar for most of the explores you'll go on. My advice would be to just not worry about it, and go have fun.

If photography is a function of the photographer then I will contentedly buy all my gear on craigslist. (/from livestrong2009)

Anyone hit this up yet? I've contemplated hitting it up a few times however I'm always alone and it's always busy hour around the area when I'm driving by.

Right after I posted we saw the security guard riding by on a bicycle. There is active security there.

So one security guard on a bicycle, have you confirmed any others? More to the fact, were you able to look around in here yet? It looks beautiful, I'd hate for such a prime spot to go to waste. If you haven't gone in yet I'd love to join.

A buddy of mine and I explored this place a few hours ago. There are random rooms in the hotel that are lit. We didn't encounter any security guards. We found a ladder and used it to gain access to the roof. We didn't get inside cause we wanted to save that for next time. But it's really easy to get inside. A lot of the sliding doors are broken and they are boarded up but the top is still open so you can use the same ladder and gain access to the inside. If anyone in the area is interested, we can get a small group to go together.

I'm laughing at you from the inside. Take a risk... It's just an abandoned hotel.

In the daylight I can see that there is totally security at that place, the kind that actually post up at the building not like some metro watch shit. They use a gate under the bridge...I can see their cars parked back there in the NE corner of the property. Doesn't matter to some people, but just keep it in mind.
