My grandmother lives down in French Lick, so I'm around Louisville a few times a year. Last time I was down, there was so much to do I didn't have nearly any time to see much of what I wanted to.

Good point! Louisville has Lexington beat there, probably 5 buildings listed in Fayette County. Well it seems like it anyway.

Understandably. Lexington doesn't have water access like Louisville, so back in the day it didn't explode industrially like Louisville. So it's a given that the majority of Louisville's historic landmarks are industrial-related

Hey guys, Just wondering if there's anyone else in the Louisville area that might be interested in meeting up and sharing some sites around town (and of course exploring).

I went to college in Louisville. I wish I would have been into Urban Exploration back then, but it is probably for the best. I'm in Hopkinsville, KY now and there are very few people that are into it. There maybe more and they just don't know that there is an actual name for what they do. Haha

Yeah that's too bad. There were a number of abandoned places right on campus that are now renovated and in use. And, according to your age, they would have been prime exploring right when you were attending.

That and Lexington has a habit of demolishing anything they can in record time.

This city is guilty of that as well. Alongside the rapid development of the 20th century here, there was also rapid destruction of the 19th century. Those who pushed the buttons were downright ignorant of preserving what the city used to be, and I can easily see Lexington being of like mind. While forces like Preservation Louisville are on the scene maintaining the city's identity, they were a bit too late and we've lost so much as a result.

This article by Broken Sidewalk will show you what I mean.

You're the first I've heard of in Louisville. I'm in Northern KY near Cincinnati, OH.

I'm in New Albany, but I explore around in Louisville, AND i'm 45 yrs old.

Been there, done that. Very fun place, but very secure.

I think the old Central State stood around vacant longer then expected, although some moron burned down the dairy barn last year. There is an attempt to preserve parts of Eastern State with the new college moving in, but it's early so I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

Does Gary count as a ghost town in Indiana? The only real ghost towns I know of in Indiana are in the northern half. As for Kentucky, I think most of them are under water from the TVA projects. Might be some in the mountains in coal country though.
