I'd just pull the rubber baffle out of your kit lens and then he can have it while you use his lens. You can even buy a new rear baffle that allows your 18-55 on the 10D all the time. I don't know if the part number is the same from the 10-22 to the 18-55 but here's a video explaining how to do it.

http://www.benjaco...o-ef-conversion-2/

I do this all the time so I can use my 10-22 on my film body. It works great you just can't go past about 13-14mm without getting vignetting.

Hey there, I am planning on getting the Fujifilm X100 to use for travel and when I just in general want to pack light and not have to lug around my D7000. Anyone here had personal experience with the X100? Likes, dislikes? I've used on at the local camera store and I know that it isn't actually a rangefinder camera, from what I saw is that while using the optical viewfinder, there is no way to actually manual focus using just the optical finder. Any feedback on what you think about this camera is appreciated.

I don't think you'll find many complaints, as long as you're ok with being stuck with one lens. The 60 minute Bulb mode of the X100 is probably enough for anything you'd be doing. The only superior alternative (at a cost of price and size/weight) is the Sony Alpha NEX. It has the same sensor size, more features, and interchangeable lenses so it's more versatile.

One sensor size alternative, Samsung NX200 lacks a shutter release and the ability to implement one and it has a four minute limit on bulb mode.

I'm waiting for Canon's mirrorless entry, I like the look of the NEX but passionately hate Sony. That and Samyang to release their APS-C sized MLC fisheye. The NEX is still the best MLC on the market.

I like the fixed lens, I am the kind of person that switches through lenses too much when shooting on a DSLR. I like the idea of being forced to only use one lens.

A good combo which I should be getting in the mail would be the Olympus OMD EM-5, Panny Leica 25mm F 1.4, Also the oly 12mm f 2.0. The oly EM5 has smooth ISO up the scale. It's smaller than a DSLR and probably the most rugged out of the Micro 4/3 cameras. Not to mention it has 6 axis IS and a killer 1080p video mode with IS.

T2i or T4i if you need the video.

T3i doesn't offer much over it's predecessor buy a used or refurbished t2i body and then put the money saved into a better lens.

Given the D800 discussion in previous posts in this thread, I'm curious if anyone has picked one up and what their experience has been.

I bought one last week and had the infamous left autofocus issue (google for further info, very well documented), and exchanged it for a second body. Second body showed the same problem and I was able to return it for a refund last night.

I think what was more disturbing than the AF issue was that both bodies were filthy inside. Significant sensor dirt (oil splashes?) and viewfinder/mirror dust.

My retailer ordered a third body and were willing to allow me to test it in-store, but I did not want to chance taking home what I thought was a good body only to discover later that it also had the same faults.

A damn shame, as the photos I took were fantastic. I hope to give the camera another chance in a few more months... hopefully after Nikon confirms that there is an AF issue and confirms that they have implemented a solution in the manufacturing process.

Send the body to Nikon. This is a fixable problem of which they may issue a service advisory for in the near future.

I contacted my local Nikon office and they were clueless about the issue (unless they were playing dumb for whatever reason). Read enough horror stories about bodies not being fixed after being sent to service that I decided to wait a few months before trying again.

That is too bad TRAINS, you'd hope that when you spend that kind of money on a body that you'd get something usable. Especially when you've bought several brand new bodies its a shame Nikon won't fess up and just fix it.

Unfortunately that's up for debate. Nothing is official and many owners are reporting no improvements after sending their bodies in for repair. I called my local Nikon facility and they could not confirm that they had any special equipment or procedure to fix the issue.

I've read about the left auto focus issues on the D800 as well. I haven't setup the test charts and seen if my body has this problem, so I can't say for sure that it's not there. All I can say is so far the photos have I've taken have all been in focus exactly where I want them to be, and haven't noticed any front or back focusing as of yet.

I figure I'll give it a little more time while Nikon gets all the repair centers on the same page, before I test mine and potentially send it in for repair. If I start noticing the issue all of a sudden, maybe I'll speed up the repair process. But for now I can say it's been exactly everything I hoped it would be, and then some.

As for the oil/dirt on the sensor. I have had this myself. The oil spots is sadly kind of the norm now with a lot of the newer Nikon DSLR cameras. I had it as well with my D7000. It comes from excess oil on the lower control arm. It wont do this forever, but early on it will drop some oil. It's annoying no doubt. Both my D7000 and now my D800 had this problem as well.

With that being said, after about 4-5k shots I performed a wet cleaning and it had no more oil issues. Occasional dust would get on there, but nothing a rocket blower didn't remove. The D800 started showing the oil spots around 3-4k shots, and then I performed a wet cleaning on it as well. Since then, it has not had any more issues with oil returning either.

Although I can understand being frustrated with this, even if oil doesn't drop down.. Sooner or later you will want to perform a wet cleaning on the sensor. This goes for pretty much any DSLR in my opinion. It's not as hard or bad as it sounds.. For about 15 bucks, and 20-30 minutes of your time your sensor can be spotless and issue free.

The D5100 has a better sensor.

D90 can use better lenses with AF unless you want to use old Nikon manual focus lenses and do your own metering
