The H31 does look nice, and I've had good experience with Zebralight before.

Posted by digital_me yeah that's bigger than I'm looking for. ideally it wouldn't have an external battery pack. i've got the bd headlamp that preceded the icon, has served me well for probably over a thousand hours but it's dying and needs to be put to rest, preferably by something smaller. anyone got something weird but good I may not have heard of?

I've personally always gone for the cheapies (3xAAA stuff), but all this talk about different colours and extremely light weight lamps is making me consider moving up the price bracket. All I need is something to provide adequate light underground to illuminate stepirons and the like. Keep the recommendations coming everyone; it's great to hear opinions from people using these lights for urbex.

If all you want is personal area lighting, you won't need much. Heck, I've done well just soldering LEDs to copper plates on hard hats and wiring batteries and a switch on. I should post about the lighthats...

I've decided I shouldn't have sold off my Myo XP a couple years ago. I have a Myo XP Belt which I've used a lot in the winter and it has been good. I'm thinking I may pick up another Myo XP or RXP... I haven't decided yet.

I forgot to mention on this thread that I had picked up a Fenix HP10.

I'm very satisfied with the light, and the way its made. The output is great, its very useable and easy to operate. I'm trying to think of a complaint for the light itself and can't think of anything.

I forgot to update this thread too, because I did get a new headlamp. I got the Petzl Myo RXP. Against the competition it clearly isn't worth the ludicrous $100 asking price. But the programmability, my familiarity with the Myo XPs, the flip up diffuser and the almost $30 in coins I turned in to an Amazon certificate at a Coinstar sold me on it.

My current favorite is my Zebralight H60. 18650, 180ish lumens, NICE flood, great runtime on lower modes =)

Fiance prefers her new H31 and if your looking for a compact thrower, thats it!

My buddy is an electrician and sports a regular H30 on his work helmet and seems to like it.

Next on my list is a Surefire Saint though and I will give an update and possibly a review once I get it!

I'd looked at the Saint. Looks fairly compatible with different battery configurations. Only thing is, their output / burn time kinda left something to be desired. (for me at least)

not sure but the light went off and on. I've used it underground maybe 4-5 times. I have the same issues with those cheap 9 led flashlights after taking them underground or getting caught out in the rain. I got a credit so I might put it toward another headlamp (undecided at this point) because I have been using my back up petzl...

I have one of those e+LITEs as well, neat little light.

I've never had issues with the Petzls I've had but I haven't gotten them terribly wet either. I wouldn't expect them to resist water as much as some of my other lights but I'm not worried about them in the rain.

I'd highly suggest the Fenix HP10 at this point. @ $65 it's not much more expensive, and its waterproof to IPX-8. Variable light output from 7 lm, 50 lm, 220 lm, 300 lm.

Been using it for several weeks now and I'm pretty fond of it. Regulated output. The head is set in a machined aircraft aluminum finned mount for heat dissipation.

Okay, okay, the diffuser sucks. But you can modify it to work better. Or you can use a rubber band and some diffuser gel paper.

Therrin, did you ever get the core for your Petzl? If so, how's it going?

Yes, Yes I did.

I use my Petzl Tikkina 2 at work every night, 12 hrs a night, 5 to 6 days a week.

Snapped in the core, charged it up. Set it for Regulated output. Set the 1st click setting as 100% output (reg), set the 2nd click setting as 15% output (reg).

Got a 12v-to-usb plug that goes in the cig lighter in my truck. So I can charge it at home, in my truck, in my guard shack at work, etc.

I usually plug it in on the way home from work, then again on the way to work, and it has plenty of time to recharge for my 12 hour shift.


I'd like to get a Tikka 2 XP now to use with it.
The XP has like 60 lm's high output, my Tikkina only has like 20 lm.

Cost? How much more does the lamp stick out?

I used it a couple of times, and I will use it at the next rain shower we have. I mostly got it for a friend that wants to come with me but that has nothing to bring.

And my last but not least good old Tikka plus is always with me.
I don't have to say anything about this one, as everybody knows how great this one is.

This actually worked really, really well for night climbing - my keyring torch (4Sevens Preon0) taped to my helmet It was more practical than strapping larger lights to the side, like I usually do, and much lighter.
