| | | Work, yesterday, got me in to the junk yard of a military museum in El Monte, Los Angeles County. I was an hour early so I had time to roam.

I thought you were pretty close to getting that 2.5? If not there is a great one in the desert I know of. Let's just call it a fixer upper. [last edit 3/24/2010 8:13 PM by robk700 - edited 1 times]

| | | I know the place. I decided to drive down a different road one day and I spotted it. I had worked a mile away for a few years and didn't know this was there. The owner will allow you to set up a meeting there for a a few bucks a person.

That is an M38A1 Military Jeep. The M38A1 (MD) was built from 1952 until 1957 for the U.S. and Canadian military forces. From 1958 until 1971 they were built for export to foreign governments. They were built at the Jeep plant in Toledo Ohio.

| | | This was a music video for some band from Scandinavia. Nobody I had heard of before. Everything but the last shot was is the junkyard. It was a mess and the owner kept telling me to stop taking pictures. Obviously, it fell on deaf ears. The actual museum is very impressive with 20-30 vehicles, mostly tanks. Worth the few bucks to see once. [last edit 6/15/2010 2:59 AM by robk700 - edited 1 times]

That's the one on the ground, I'm thinking of the one up on top of the rear of it with no wheels. It has a certain eastern European look to it.

It is an "Austin Champ" (strictly a "Truck, 1/4 ton, CT, 4x4, cargo & FFW, Austin Mk.1"), Champ was the easier civilian name. It was the response to a British requirement in 1946 for a Jeep replacement, in practice it was twice the price and no more capable than the privately developed Land Rover, so the British Army sold off their Champs and bought Land Rovers. In military service, they were given the designation FV1801. A few were used as ambulances, telephone line-laying vehicles or equipped with armour and a .303in Vickers medium machine gun, but the majority served as cargo/personnel carriers or were fitted with radios. A version armed with a single dash board mounted Browning .30 cal machine-gun was in limited use as late as 1967. jch
