The Clean Price
entry by CaptOrbit

So I had to cut out some sections of bad boiler pipe in the basement. A neighbor was helping me thread and install the new ones as well as haul the old ones outside. After coming back to the house from a break I noticed that the old asbestos covered pipes were gone. I followed a repetitive crunching sound only to find that my neighbor had carried all pipes into his yard and was busying himself with using the claw end of a hammer to rip the asbestos off. He was standing in a cloud of white dust sans respirator.

"You don't mind that I took these old pipes do ya'?"

"No, not at all."

"Oh good, 'cause you kinda got a look on your face"

"You know that's asbestos," I said.

"Yeah, I know," he replied. "It's gotta come off or I won't get the clean price for it."

"That's kind of dangerous, what you're doing, don't you want to wet that down or anything?"

"Nah, I'm out in the fresh air. I'll be fine."

"Uh...okay, I'm going back inside now."
