Is there a tale behind that one?

Hmm... Well I can say that it involved a rather successful one way trip through a tailrace.

Oh, and a stupid non-locking carabiner.

You're a few years late on that one, I think. The lights in the subbasements aren't even on anymore. But good job, none the less.

Hey Bryan. I know its not the UE heyday for Niagara any longer, but the locations remain. There were however, lights still shining from our hearts and were the sign that this had to be conquered. And so it was. No less dramatic than in years past and certainly a first time for us. Many pictures were taken, just not posted...

Actually, it was somewhat more dramatic after losing the hook and roping on up with a brick in a pure ascension trip. but that is another story... lol.

peace.

That really sucks. I'm sure it was just as awesome, though. Congrats again.

Edit: I didn't mean any disrespect, because I have nothing but for you. Sucks about your grappling hook, though.

Ya it was somewhat of a negative surprise. But whatever.. in those circumstances you do with what you have. The fact that there was still progress after the change in plan was extremely fortunate but persistance with it paid off. It just delayed us several minutes, that was all. And as most of these things go, there were more stories to talk of after the fact... I dont regret the adventure one bit and a new hook should be here any day now...

Not a light, but I did loose my shutter cable awhile ago. During the infiltration of a high profile location I had cut my hand negotiating a fence. Somewhere, somehow I lost the shutter cable in the guest house. (Covered with my DNA!)

Not a big deal except the location was a giant mansion that has been in the news a lot lately out here in California.

(Edited to add details)

Okay, I've ordered two new 'cheapie' lights:

Floody MC-E light from DX

Cheap thrower from Kaidomain

I mention them now in anticipation of their imminent loss or breakage

Black is not the best color for a flashlight, since it makes it difficult to see in the dark if you drop it. I put colorful reflective tape on the darker flashlights that I use often. I have yet to lose a flashlight.

I lost one of these lights in 2003 when I wrecked my car.

Yeah, it's not that brilliant or expensive like some of the equipment others have lost. The reason it bothered me so is that it was relatively powerful, very handy when I clipped it on my harness at night, and the red filter was quite effective, especially when paired with the diffuser.

I have one of these torches that I use to light-paint with, fitted with a filter they are great for doing light graffiti. Or just for giving the walls of a drain some colour in a photo.
I have so far only lost 1 LED key-chain light. it only cost $2 so was no great loss.

Hah when it comes to loosing lights ive done my fair share. Ive lost two 2XD m*gleds, 2 Dorcy 3watt LED's, 1 coast light with a red feature, and im sure theres been a few more I cant remember. But hopefully those days are long gone since almost all my flashlights I own now cost no less than $50. Plus I use holsters and pocket clips now to deal with that problem!

It's okay.

Certainly it's bright, though not being regulated it dims as the battery drains, but the only way around that one is to buy something more expensive instead. It seems decently put together - it came lubed, has appropriate o-rings, and feels fairly solid. Oh, and for what it is, it's not overly large, which is nice. It still makes my 18650-powered Jet III ST look tiny, though

On the negative side, eight modes is annoying, but not the end of the world. More of an issue, though, is that I used it last night riding home from work, and every time I hit a bump, the light changed modes! Extremely annoying! However, this is the third time I've used it on the bike, and the first two times it didn't have that problem. So, either I've knocked a connection loose, or I was using a battery that fit too loosely (it was an AW 18650, but previously I'd probably had a TrustFire or UltraFire in there). That's only an issue riding, of course, not using it hand-held.

In short - it's decent, and I don't regret the choice, but I would keep an eye out for worthy alternatives (there seem to be new ones appearing all the time).

I hate thieves

My 6-d mag with the terralux upgrade got stolen when I was DJing a party the other night. Packing my stuff up to go home and it was the last thing on the table came back for it and it was gone!!!!!!! I'm still mad just put that thing together in the last month or so. Not to mention the $100 I've got to spend to get a replacement.

Ouch, that sucks. Are you going to replace it with another mag, or spend the money on something else?

Haha..... Both actually I went out and bought a Surefire G3 (with a holster that carries a spare set of batteries) the day after the mag got taken. I just ordered a couple 6-d mags again too. One for a friend that was impressed by the terralux and the other to replace mine.

I put a R2 cree drop-in on the G3 and its awesome. But I still want to have the terralux back for light painting and A few things at work.

I'm getting a ridiculous amount of flashlights around the house..............

Embarrassingly enough, the issue with my ZebraLight was just that it needed a good clean inside...

So, the good news there, is I now have it up and running again! I'd forgotten just how great that smooth diffuse light was for up-close stuff.
