News update: I've decided to stick with Hasselblad for now and will be using my $1,200 budget to buy 1.5 lenses for it instead.*

*This decision likely to change within the next 48-72 hours.

I think you should put your money towards a fancy wedding suit

enough with the photography. It is time for you to start making babies.

I was thinking of getting something more along the lines of this:

That way I'll still have some money left to buy 1.43 lenses for the Hasselblad.

Posted by mortimerNext time you're out in Etobicoke, International Camera usually has a few bargain-ish wide angles and sometimes have Linhof bodies as well.

Today he had 1 Linhof Colour, 2 Cambo monorails, a B&J flatbed camera, an Arca Swiss monorail, a Super Speed Graphic, and 2 Crown Graphics. (4x5s)

So did you feel guilty after you left the store without buying anything? I always do.

Found an RB67 system with some lenses for a good price on ebay, so went with that. Maybe large format in 2010.

Well, that's almost like getting a 4x5. I mean, it has a set of bellows and probably weighs just as much.

Kidding, of course.. hope it works out for you. I've just read a fair number of complaints about its size and weight.

Thanks, Captain Sunshine. heh

Yeah, the weight isn't insignificant. But it isn't worse (or not much worse) than a LF system. Just gives me an excuse to upgrade my camera bag.

Sorry, didn't mean to be such a downer. It was meant to be a lighthearted comment, but it kind of lost some of its glow without an emoticon beside it.

What lenses did you get?

(I bet they're heavy too)

I've been around your posts long enough to tell, so no worries.

What lenses did you get?

50mm (4.5), 90mm (3.8), and 180mm (4.5). Also came with a couple backs, a polaroid back, prism finder, metered prism, L-grip (which won't get any use i'm sure), and an assortment of lens filters and shades and such.

(I bet they're heavy too)

They are even worse than I imagined I'm sure.

I'll be using my usual manfrotto 190 for now.

I got my negatives back and Imacon scanned them (2040 dpi.. not full res, but good enough for now). Holy balls.

Yep! That's LF for ya. You can't compare with the res. I have an epso 4990 and scan at 1200 DPI. Even at that atrociously low res the scan looks pristine.

I must say, you shouldn't have given up at the inability to focus in dark! There are dozens of creative solutions to that. My favorite: take the top off of a AA mini-maglite (they screw right off). What results when you screw off the top is a small beacon akin to a 1/100th scale light house. Stand it up where ever you want to focus. If you can't access whereever you want to focus find a nearby approximation.

If you don't want to use the assistance of a beacon, you can always take a small 6-9X eye louope with you and hang it around your neck. Fashionable and utilitarian - sort'a like Indiana Jones' whip.

I'm more postponing LF, than abandoning it.

2 extra METERED viewfinders.

I'm going to customize them so I can use them all at once.

So far I'm very happy. Haven't put a roll through it yet.
