| Chimneying The act of using feet and/or hands to bridge a space between two parallel walls (such as in a chimney) or the two walls of a corner. The climber can apply sideways pressure to the walls to stay in a rest position or to move upwards. Depending on the width of the chimney, the climber may place his back on one side and feet on the other side and "walk" up the space, or place the left hand and foot on one side and the right hand and foot on the other side to move up.
