LightScribe issues..

Not sure if many people use Lightscribe, But I was wondering if theres a way to automate multiple passes with it.. One pass is generally too lite to read easily, and normally you need at least 2-3 passes to make it look 'nice'.. But the problem is (at least with the Lightscribe prog) is that after each pass it will spit out the disc and you have to click a button to have it go to the next pass.. Which is really insanely annoying because you kinda have to keep an eye on it to actually have it finish in any kind of time, I can't set it to 4 passes and go out for the night and come back to a done disc, I will come back to one pass done.. Which is retarded as hell...

I have two Lightscribe drives, I was highly excited about it when I bought them, and then I have never used the Lightscribe feature. Isn't that pathetic?

Is there a more high-end program than NERO that might do it?

Theres a small handful of programs that actually etch LS discs.. when I bought my drive I didn't ever realize it was a LS one, I just needed a DVD-rom and it was hella cheap.. They look damn nice and pretty top notch, they just have to take multiple passes to look remotely good..

My new laptop came with some kind of Lightscribe suite from HP installed on it. I don't have any lightscribe disks, so I have never yet tried it.

Err...

1) Lightscribe is a PRINTER driver. You can get free labelling software to develop and use designs from www.lightscribe.com (It's right there on the main page) Normal burning software shouldn't be expected to interface with the PRINTER system LS uses. <.<
2) You need to update your drive's firmware (check with your manufacturer or use the auto-update utility that comes with the -->) and lightscribe interface software, go to lightscribe.com for instructions. Also use the Extended label contrast utility, an option in that program, so darken the image. You should never need multiple passes.

It should be full quality with very dark contrast (the pic is just a quick snapshot that doesn't due justice, it's all homogenous dark black on gold) after one 45-minute burn

Hrm... I haven't updated the firmware in a long time... I suppose I'll try that.. to get 'black' on gold discs I need like three passes currently..

I just got the most recent update for the firmware and it's still the same problem.. maybe it's just one of the original lightscribes so it's a lil weaker.. *shrug*

Funnily enough, my PHILIPS burner now has the same issue. All of a sudden, the contrast on a new disc is like 20% of what it used to be so you need to label a disc 2-3 times for it to look good. I re-flashed it, called them, etc etc - but it's been over 2 years since I bought it and it's not a retail box so they won't do anything <.<

Thankfully my new laptop has a LS drive...

Yeah, original lightscribe will really, really suck compared to what is out now.

I had the original....and also it will depends on your equipment. Unless the person who posted the awesome lightscribe has the exact same burner as you and age, don't worry....but maybe go out and get what he has ;)
