| Tabi refers to a style of footwear where the big toe is seperated from the other toes. Originating in Japan, the tabi sock was for wearing with sandals. The Odori tabi sock (commonly called a Tabi Boot by westerners) is a form fitting "sock with a sole". They now make many varieties of tabi boots, for many different needs. Some people also refer to them as Ninja boots, since Ninja are typically depicted wearing them. http://www.marugo....uct/tabi/index.htm Depending on the type of tabi, there are various benefits. In general, the common tabi have very flexible soles, allowing your foot to move more naturally. This can be beneficial for walking silently and climbing. The split toe design aids in climbing, most notably for climbing things like chainlink fences (automatically each foot will occupy two holes in the link, giving greater stability with less effort). | Modify this entry | Remove this entry |
