Orphelins de Duplessis

Last year some friends and I were driving near Ormstown, QC for no apparent reason when we discovered this complex. After exploring it for a bit a man greeted us out of nowhere with a gun in his hand telling us to get the f-out. We play the oh, we didnt know we were not supposed to be here card and after some negotiations agree to leave. The man says the complex was used for les Orphelins de Duplessis. If you are unaware of what this is check here is a link. http://www.droitsh...nique_20070205.htm
I tried to confirm that the complex was used for the orphelins but all the information is obviously very difficult to find. We were rather unequipped to explore and I really want to go back some time with better photo equipment as well as some gear. (flashlights etc.)

No, I dont really have exterior pictures as it would have exposed us. Here is one from the back looking into the St-Lawrence valley. Its actually a really beautiful view. The complex had one major building (where you can see the toilet chair), a smaller pavillion (dentist chair) a barn in the back, I think three other buildings across the street, and 2 or 3 others, I cant remember fully.

That's great!!! We want to see more locations like that! Great find!!!

(For the record : I don't hold any grudge against anyone, I just don't like new users first post ever asking about how to enter the Dow, that's all. Now let's move on shall we, that's a great location, I fully acknowledge, this is great, welcome to UER and all that. If this would have been your first post, then I'd kiss your feet. So now, let's settle for a beer at the August 12 meet, ok? )

If you want to confirm that this was part of the Orphelins de Duplessis ordeal, here's a few things that could help you :

1)Call the COOID as they have very documented information that they prepared during their lawsuits againsgt the Qc. gov. a few years ago : COOID: 1231, rue Panet, 3e étage, Montréal, Québec, H2L 2Y6. (514) 521-1954

2)Try to find which religious community was around that area and check that info through the religious groups that were "sponsored" by Duplessis. Duplessis only funneled $$$ through religious groups to take care of the orphans so they are usually fairly well documented and usually still existing, paper trail included.

Welcome on UER! GREAT LOCATION!

Hey, but the problem is that from what I understand Dorea is in France from what I am told. The picture of the chair which controleman has sent is rather disturbing

http://www.uer.ca/...cs/norm/162086.jpg

Too bad the wrong side of the arm is broken, because that would be really really bizarre. However, that place looks too identical to the place I saw near Ormstown. Who took this photo of Dorea?, as I cant seem to find it in the DB, perhaps I do not have access rights.

A picture can be flip horizontaly you know... and that picture.. its the same chair, same doors, and same floor that you posted , very strange.
