I tried using vuescan, but I could never get it to scan accurately. It was a pain to use. I find scanning to NEF and using the auto contrast/exposure with NikonScan to me much easier and more efficient, then adjusting the levels in post if necessary.

I need to bite my tongue. I started using VueScan again a few months ago and now feel like I wasted the past two years while scanning with anything else. Here is a comparison of two scans of the same negative. Top is scanned using VueScan with no additional post processing, bottom is scanned with NikonScan with a good amount of color balancing and levels in post.

Just needed to set that straight.

Here is a recent medium format photo to keep this all on track. Pentax 67, Portra 160NC

Vuescan is sort of hit and miss for me, but as time goes on, it's more hit than miss. I'm especially a fan of "Scan from preview" as an option. It saves so much time!

I wish I could learn to like vuescan.
Did a bad job scanning Polaroids.

I'm sure if I play with the settings long enough I could be satisfied.

Though Will's example is probably going to get me to try it out again.

Currently using an Nikon 9000 and correcting in Photoshop.
Especially Ektar 100, which seems to have dramatic color shifts depending on exposure.

Recently picked up an 8x10 kit.

Delta 100

Need to get used to the reduced depth of field.

Here is a large version:

This is around a 23 megapixel image, which is only a 600dpi scan.
