I intended to overexpose the shots a little to maintain some shadow detail, and I underdeveloped them a little as well to try and compensate. Then again, I adjusted the levels in pshop also.
I'm not sure if there is a norm for the camera.

The scanner can make a big effect on exposure as well. Since it's Negative film, the interpretation of the image by the scanning software can make it look completely different than it might look printed, or even scanned on a different machine. What software are you using for the capture?

I tried using vuescan, but I could never get it to scan accurately. It was a pain to use. I find scanning to NEF and using the auto contrast/exposure with NikonScan to me much easier and more efficient, then adjusting the levels in post if necessary.

Water washing away the emulsion.
I'm new to shooting with 55 (and AMAZING film, btw) and don't have the technique down yet. If you wait a while before cleaning the neg (as I did) the emulsion dries and can be washed off when you clean it. oops.

Wild. I haven't had much experience with instant film at this point, but the fragility of the emulsions is really fascinating. I've always wanted to try doing a lift/transfer but I've never been that motivated to gather the resources and actually start messing about with it.

I have a long history of ruining Type 55 negatives. They're way too fragile for me.
