"Listen, we'll build islands"...

... le visuel en arrière plan c'est les îles (déjà construites! la Minute du patrimoine a été tourné dans les années 90)

Hmmm. WOOPS.

If you want to see the site of Expo 67 in a pretty darn bad state, watch the 1979 Robert Altman's movie Quintet. It was shot at Expo 67 in 1979, in the middle of the winter, in abandoned pavillions that were sprayed with water for days, which turned into ice.

It is by far the worst movie I've seen in years and I needed to try 3 times to watch it until the end without committing suicide but it is good for the visual. You'll recognize most of the places. There's an train Expo Express in the movie too, the bridge to go from Notre-Dame to Ste-Hélène Island and all sorts of trashed up stuff.

If you get the DVD version, check out the "extra - the making of the Quintet universe". It explains how they chose the location, how they moved sculptures and other Expo stuff around, what Montréal asked out of the crew and how many members of the crew broke their arms in the abandoned pavillions that were sprayed with icy water.

La Boite Noire has the DVD movie.

Weirdly, I don't dislike that movie at all!! Sure it's slow, hypnotizing with no action, but I liked it. And you're right, the visuals are beautiful and amazing on the old Expo sets, even with the old train wagons all wrecked!!

You really are obsessed. Trois tentative de suicide pour un film. Wow.

Seriously though, I'd probably be interested in attending whatever you have planned.

Merci beaucoup!

I guess I'm really showing my age (or my status as an old fart), but I never would have thought to check out Youtube for videos of Expo67. I've watched several of them now, and they've caused a flood of memories to come back. I was 11 years old that centennial year, and my sisters and I spent a lot of time on those islands.

Those were pretty heady times, there was a sense of optimism, a sense that anything was possible--there was far less of the cynicism that there is today. It's hard to believe that, just a week from tomorrow, it'll be 40 years since Expo67 opened.

Thanks again.

We visited every pavillon before being allowed to go to La Ronde....
Oh my god,I finally didn't care that much for La Ronde...I was so curious about all that new world accessible..those people from around the world, some with traditional costumes...the smells of all the food...I have a lot of images in my head of sunsets ....feelings...it is still very strong !

I'm so glad I'm not alone here! Love the pics... I'm not sure where my Expo passport went to... maybe my mother still has it--I'll have to ask her.

If you had an Expo 67 passport, try to find it and keep it close. there will probably en event at the end of the summer where you'll be admitted to special activities if and only if you can show your original passport (or a passport I believe) and you'll get a special stamp for the 40th anniversary.

If someone ask how you know about it, well... it wasn't from me

Est-ce que ça eu lieu? J'étais à la Place des Nations à 14:20 et il n'y avait pas un chat. Je suis arrivé trop tard?

Ahhh.
