First Entry

So, my telecom professor introduced me to the concept of urban exploration. I didn't know it was a real thing. Being a college student, I have a lot of free time. So a few days after learning about UE, I set out to explore some abandoned railway cars. The cars are about a 10 minute bike ride from my dorm. I packed up my camera and hopped on my bike. I set out around 11:00PM. Keep in mind I'm living in Burlington, Vermont, and it's winter.

When I arrived at the cars, I realized bringing some sort of light would have been a good idea. Oh well, I wasn't going to go back. Then I ran into my first obstacle, there was a fence between the trains and I. Fortunately I found a hole in the fence. I parked my bike and proceeded to climb one of the cars. They all had some sort of ladder on them. Arriving at the top I found the inside of an open, empty container. There were some rocks in the bottom, and a little graffiti. It's a start.

I snapped a few pictures and whipped out my cell phone to mark the location of the trains with its gps. Oops, the battery died before I could get a fix. This was probably due to the ~10 degrees weather I went out in. I then jumped into the open car and crossed its interior until I could climb out the other side. From here I could see into all the cars. There were about a dozen of them, all open top. I spent some time hopping from car to car, not finding anything interesting. Then I got bored and cold, so I decided to leave.

I climbed down off of the car I was on to notice I was a tad far from my bike, but I could get back to it quickly if I hopped the fence. This was a lot harder than I thought. You can't grab the top of the fence because its sharp, and my feet are too big to get and kind of grip on the side. I ended up walking back to the hole.

While I was riding past the cars on my way home, I noticed there were some cars I hadn't checked out. These cars however, were only reachable by scaling what was about a 12 foot stone wall. The wall didn't have much for places to get a hold on. So I backed up, ran up the wall a little, and managed to get my hands over the top to pull myself up. Unfortunately, these cars were no more interesting than the previous. Then I went home.

This is the inside of the first car I went into.

Here's the second, some graffiti.

I'm not sure what this is. There were similar devices on the end of each car.

Here's a shot of the nice view I had.
